L/M Ball for Over/Under
« on: September 09, 2007, 11:06:16 AM »
Hi All - I've added the Buzz and Hornet to my bag, and am wondering what the L/M Group would recommend for battling over/under early in sets (fresh oil with fast carrydown and developing dry spots in tournament conditions) - The Sting?.  I'm finding the Buzz & Hornet are good for over/under later on as things dry a bit, but am perplexed as to how to combat it early in sets when there's still alot of oil in the heads and mids.

Yes, I move my feet and target but my slower ball speed has my ball getting too jumpy around the pocket.

Thanks for your help

For me it's The NS2 in conditions you describe.  Arcy ball for med-heavier that I can play a tight line with.  Has some room for recovery and doesn't tend to over react.

Over-under usually means either surface or particles to burn off some energy and smooth out the transition.  The NS2 is both, as would be a Yeah Baby (my current fave, so grain of salt).  Both will handle quite a bit more oil than the Buzz or Hornet.

Just an FYI....back when BTM did it's ball review of the NS2 it got one of the highest ratings on a medium-heavy sport shot.

The other ball, I have used I would put in this same catagory would be the Col. Alter Ego.  Same kind of ball motion without the over reaction.

The NS, NS2, and Absolute Power are the three best balls for over/under from Lm/L.

I concur, the NS2 is the ball of choice for this type of lane condition.

In my opinion, this is true only if the oil pattern is a medium-heavy to heavy oil pattern and the ball is left with the stock surface or close to it. also the closer you are to being speed dominant, the more the ball will arc for you.

I have shined this ball up to use it on lighter oil and as such, its ball reaction rides on the borderline of hard arc to skid/flip.

This is also true of the NS, whereas the AP will arc even with the stock highly polished pearlized cover. (Those who are more rev-dominant and/or who drill this ball with a high pin will find it  ... less arcy.)
