Title: C300 Rival = ? in Lane Masters?
Post by: no300yet on January 04, 2008, 11:51:29 AM
Really like to try a Lane Masters ball if they have something close to the Rival, Thanks!

An Awesome Impact or Extreme Impact (which are both discontinued and you probably wont be able to find) have very similar core numbers and the Ext. is the solid version with the Awe. being the pearl.

While some I have talked to (who probably know more than me) have suggested not to expect a ball with very close core specs and listed coverstock similarities to react the same.  I have found some very similar reactions from that, but they weren't exact.

I have thrown neither of these balls, and the Terminator Rebellion doesn't get released until  Feb., but to fit the bill of being a very arcy ball with strong midlane recovery and read for med/heavy to med/dry lanes, it would be a great choice and is a ball I am very interested in trying.  Maybe some others can shine some better input.

I would say the closest thing they have right now to the Rival is the XS Power.  I'm thinking perhaps the Terminator Rebeillion when it comes out, but it's got a higher RG core, so I don't think it'll have the same midlane reaction.  I have a Rival and love it, but I haven't thrown the XS Power, so it's an educated guess at this point.

Only problem, easily corrected, is the XS Power comes polished (rather than the 800 grit as originally predicted), not dull as the Rival does. Otherwise, may be close.

I have the Rival, Black Pearl, Sure Strike, Buzz. Have also used the BigR-Bang, Terminator and Hornet. Out of the list only the BigR-Bang was close to the Rival for reaction. From what I have read the Sting might be a close match? Out of all the LM balls I have I prefer the Black Pearl, this ball will rev up, set up and be as predictable as any ball I have ever used. The Rival is great if the back ends are clean and there is plenty of oil in the heads. One thing I have found that the LM balls will last longer and absorb less oil than the typical high end balls. I recommend the Black Pearl and compliment it with the Sure Strike and/or Buzz. The SS and Buzz hit as hard but get down the lane a bit more.

Thank you to all of you! I "probably" would not consider the XS Power because I want to try a 2-piece ball.

Thank you Don! Do you have the Black Pearl Particle or Reactive?

I have 2 rival's and most every l/lm ball nothing rolls like a rival in the whole line sorry. The rival's are very angular and jump off the spot for me pin up and pin down drillings with around 4 1/2 pin to pap.

Charlest,

It may not be the proper term. I just kind of picked it up from other members. I am refering to those Legends and Max performance balls that don't use "fillers".

Oh, OK. I understand. I don't think there's any classification for them ... yet.

Barry,

With the Rival being 4000 grit as the stock, I can the potential for some angularity, but many Lm/L balls are very angular. Maybe your release and/or drillings do not make them that way for you. Always a tricky situation when doing evaluations and trying to make generalizations about balls.

My Sting at 4.25" pin to PAP above ring CG below at 80 deg. is very angular polished on an average THS.  It came polished not at the 800 sheen advertised OOB.

Why not just buy a Rival if you want something like a Rival. The ball is great. Not bashing Lanemasters because they are great too, just saying....At least for me I will throw any company that makes a ball that is good...

I am not saying that I'll never get a Rival. Just want to make my next ball a Legend/Lanemasters.

The main reason: I have not owned too many balls....... may be about 6-7 but I never had a ball that did not have filler( like most of the Visionary balls). From what I read these balls are supposed to be better in quality and will last much longer, provided I take care of them.

I have already read about the Rival getting scratched and losing reaction.......

I may wait till the BP Reactive and Terminator R come out so I'll have more choices. Thanks all!( May be not the BP Reactive, it won't be out until July. Dam!).
