Confusion with Ratings
« on: October 08, 2007, 06:13:31 AM »
I had a question regarding the LaneMasters Ball Chart and the Bowling This Month Ball Ratings.  How can the WCR which seems to be a ball for medium oil conditions (based on the LM chart) have a higher rating on dry lane conditions then the Buzz which seems to be for light to medium oil (again, according to the LM chart)?  Bowling This Month rates The Buzz a 5 for all styles in dry conditions while the WCR is a 7 for all styles.  I would have thought that a ball would perform better the closer it got to the conditions it was designed for.  Any insight would be appreciated as am planning a ball purchase and am a little confused by the numbers. Thank you

It just goes to show you that everyone sees something different. You have to be careful whose word becomes "law" for you.

If you look again at the BTM Buzz review, even more perplexing than the ratings for dry are the ratings for oil, all 8s and 9s, for a medium oil pearl resin??? That raised a major "CAUTION" sign for me. I have a Buzz right now with a relatively strong drill (4x4) and it handles medium oil nicely, hooks a LOT on lighter oil (I much prefer the Hornet) and on heavier oil, I use the NS or a Big Kahuna or Yeah Baby!.

Reviews are just one source of information, no matter who performs them.

For my money, the Buzz and the WCR are both medium oil resin pearls with a skid/flip reaction. Neither handle heavy oil or light oil as well as they do medium oil. Both are very powerful on medium oil.

A control drill or lower pin position will move both balls towards the control side of the equation.

Pick your poison.
