Straight Flush (A now begun event) {edited}
« on: August 10, 2006, 02:13:43 PM »
8/18/06: I received my 16 lb Straight Flush from Pat Duggan (BowlingBallMall.com) yesterday. While I like blue bowling balls, this has to be one of, if not the most beautiful looking balls I have ever seen. The pearlization and the polish make it more so. I almost hate to drill holes in it. I'll see if I can get over to my driller today to have it done.

I ordered one a few weeks ago and got it from Pat Duggan at BowlingBallMall.com. Unfortunately I ordered and received a wonderful 15 lb one. The unfortunate part (don't know what I was thinking) is that I am in the middle of great confusion because I am once again trying to convert back up to 16 pound balls. I've been using them very comfortably in my 7:30 PM league of 4 games, ending around 10 PM. Normally I would need to use 15 lb balls because of the late hour (and my freaking old age!), not even considering 4 games. This past season I used 15 lb balls in both my 6:30 PM, 3 games leagues.

Sooooooo, I didn't drill up the 15 lb Straight Flush.

I just ordered a 16 lb one from Pat. Will probably get it sometime next week. Will try to drill it Thursday or so and use it in practice on Monday and in league on Tuesday, if all goes according to plan.

Meanwhile I haven't seen too many, well hardly anyone posting about this ball. Anyone tried one or is using one now??? {So are Labyzz74 and hiflush the only ones who have used this ball?}

Charlest,
 Just got mine in today (layout in my profile and was drilled per the recommendations from Galen); once I have a chance to roll it, I'll get back to ya on it.

Did he let you exchange it? Or are you going to sell the 15?

I only know of one person who has one...at least I think he has one...Robb, but perhaps he didn't get it yet?

I'm in the middle of negotiations, but someone has already asked for the 15 lb one, if I don't trade it in. Besides the sucker is expensive; I'd have to charge what I paid plus shipping to you.

8/11, 4:30 PM Eastern. I sent the 15 lb back to the guy from whom I got it.

FYI there is an added expense to manufacture of this 3 piece core ball that makes it more labor intensive, as compared to 2 piece balls; this makes it cost the pro shop and in turn, us, the customer, as much as the 2 piece cored Lanemasters balls.

charlest,

This ball is about 7 to 8 boards less hook than the "The Buzz".
I was able to play stand 13 and hit 7 on a THS w/ AMF HPL's.
With The Buzz I was 20 to 11. The ball hit just as good as any other L/LM ball in my arsenal.

Thanks a TON, hiflush.
That's an invaluable hint.

BTW, how'd you drill yours? The one I saw had like a 2.5" pin-CG distance, but this being a pancake core, it's side, finger and top weights that make a big difference. I haven't had a chance to call Galen to see where to place the pin.
What did you do?

My stats: 235 rpms off my hand, 17 mph ball speed, axis rotation is 75-80 degrees, axis tilt is 15-20 degrees,and my PAP is 4 3/4 and 1/2 up.

This was the layout that Galen recommended for me:
 3 oz TW, cg 3 1/2” off the PAP, 2” pin "stacked" above,
 13/16" WH located 2" past the PAP and on the midline
 (which gives me around 1/2 oz pos side weight).

I didn't get a chance to roll it today in practice; working on other things with other balls ... mini-review to come.

Charlest,

Just an FYI, when I threw this ball, the lanes were just stripped & oiled.
I have it drilled with the pin next to my ring finger with the CG on the center line. (4 x 5 1/2). Pin to CG distance is about 2 1/2. Almost no flare from this ball. The cover does all the work. I was told to go by the CG when drilling this ball. Hope this helps.

I haven't purchased the Straight Flush yet and may and may not as my XXXL seems to currently take care of my dry lane needs. I may look at the Straight Flush later if both of my WC balls (particle and reactive) work out ok for me. So far the particle has got off to a flying start and is working great in the synthetic house. The reactive was ordered from allstarbowling-Joe yesterday, so I should have it next week. Now, on to what the topic is of which is the Straight Flush, here is what Galen recommended for me and my style.......(see profile)

On the dry patterns the Straight Flush will hook at least an arrow less than the Kong or The Buzz and I feel it will be best for your game. I would use a layout as follows: Keep the cg even with the ml and stack the pin with a 2” shift to the right and a 6- ¾ in weight hole to render legal if needed. The pin is not a big factor on this ball so I would go with around 1-1/2 to 2” with 2-1/2 to 3 on top.

Since that's a pancake core, totally non-dynamic, that's what I would have expected. I'll probbaly do something similar, or 1/2 - 3/4 ounce side and finger weight.

8/18/06: as noted in the mainsection above, I got my 16 lb one yesterday; will try to drill it today.

A most beautiful medium blue pearlized ball!

I'm truly looking forward to your review and thoughts about it; Galen and I both agree that we think that you'll really like this ball !!!
