Sting
« on: August 25, 2007, 08:22:22 AM »
I picked up a Sting the other day and wanted to know, if anybody else can compare it, to there other Lanemasters Balls?  My Terminator moves through heavier oil better than my Sting, I scuffed the surface with a green scotch brite pad.  I have not touched the Sting as of yet, but it appears I will use the gray pad on it.  My pap is 5 5/8, with 5/8 up and it appears to have some backend.  But with the polish still on it, the comparison is not the same.  My pin is slightly above of my ring finger.

Does anybody has any comparisons to add?

What "polish" is still on it?
The factory finish is sheen, which usually is an 800 grit, light grey Scotch Brite pad applied to a high gloss polish.

Those two balls are on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as reaction shape goes from a particle standpoint.

The core shape in the two provides a large difference in length and amount of hook.  The terminator is a much earlier rolling ball, and the higher particle load in the terminator will provide the traction in oil.

The sting looks to me to be a very angular particle ball.  No, its not as angular as a reactive resin ball but for a particle cover, the ball comes off the corner pretty hard.  From what I have seen, I think the sting would be closest to the shape of a Black Pearl, but not as much overall hook.

And as with anything, grey pad will make the ball roll sooner, and smoother. Keep the polish,  more snap.

I spoke with Sam Baca and he said the Sting would move more through the oil and in carry down, compared to the Terminator and Black Pearl.   I'll follow up after scuffing the surface some.  One thing I can say, the pins do explode with this ball, sometimes it may actually hit too hard.
