Buzz questions from a MoRich boy
« on: July 06, 2008, 02:30:49 PM »
I have been looking around as of late for equipment that is a little more mellow easier length more control as a general rule. I have heard alot of good things about this ball and was wondering what everyone here thinks of it?

Thanks to all who reply

It depends on how you drill it and if you change the surface and how you change it.

I really like it, but like most Lm/L, its amount of hook can be surprising and hard to deal with. Most people find it suitable for medium-light to medium oil. I drilled mine on the strong side, 4x4, pin under the ring and found it too flippy for the lanes and oil I was bowling on. So, knowing the surface is 800 grit + heavy duty Legends polish, I resanded it to 800 grit and then reapplied a light dose of the Legends polish. This made it much more controllable for my medium-low ball speed. It handles medium oil and little on either side of that very well. Pins still fly when it  hits.

I liked it well enough to buy a 2nd Buzz for deep inside lines when I wanted to play a tighter, almost fall back shot. I put a Tommy Jones type of drill on it. 4" pin to PAP, with the pin about 1" from the VAL.

For me and to least one friend it acts like it has much more flare and much more backend than its relatively mild core gives it. Honestly, I am shocked at the amount of hook I get from it consoidering the .031" differential. That is very misleading. It acts more like a .050" diff.

I believe some poeple put too high a pin placement on this ball, given its natural length with even a low pin, like my first Buzz. This, a high pin, would give it a over/under reaction on many patterns, unless they thought to modify the surface somewhat. I think this may be why you don't see a lot of comments about it. Also it is an older ball, but not an ancient one. It's not the "latest and greatest". There were a lot of comments when it first came out.

I currently own a ton of LM balls so I kinda got an idea of what you are looking for. The ball I own that just sweeps me off my feet is a WCP that is very shiny with the pin under the fingers. The XS power is simply incredible too. I have it with the pin above the ring, with a slight shine.

I do in fact have a Buzz with the pin in a mild position under the middle finger but I just dont feel it is "great" like some of the other ones. Most of these balls have high RG's so getting them down the lane is not a problem. Keep the pins down for more control and add some polish if needed. This week I will try and get some pics of all my equipment so you will have an idea of which ones are great. Thanks and hope this helps, John

Additional notes:
In general, this ball is not Mellow. I had to take mine into "mellow" territory. It does get very easy length. COntrol? I had to add a sense of "control" to mine also, but I started out with a flippy drill on it!!
