NS and NS2

Hi was I wondering... I have the New Standard and the NS2 on the way. I enjoy label type drillings, and was curious, if I drill these two balls exactly the same st8 over the label... Will these balls react different, or will they be to similiar for the same layouts??? Thanks, John

I hesitated because I have not "played" with an NS2 personally, but have "played" extensively with the NS.

I'd expect the NS2 to be slightly earlier with less backend and even a greater sense of control than the NS. I think the major difference is the NS2 has a heavier load of particles. Both handle medium to medium-heavy oil, depending on drill and "hand".

I don't recommend doing this but my NS2 is drilled for length with a shallow big xhole on the PAP. It is extremely consistent with a very nice backend. Probably not what anybody needed to hear. But hey I have to share my 1/2 cent from time to time.

the regular new standard does hook more than the ns2 in my opinion. i drilled my original new standard back when it first came out for a bit of length like justink said, and loved it on medium-heavy shots.. and on heavy oil i was able to use it straight up 3 and had great hook and power. the ns2 for me hooked way too early.. i drilled it the same as my original. i even put polish on it and it ended up squirrely. so i sold it and got another one and drilled it an inch from my axis and cg near the palm and liked it a lot.. personally i think this ball actually likes exotic layouts.. so don't be afraid to either drill really close to your axis or really far away.. depending on how far down you want your breakpoint to be.

I've bowled with both.  A label drilled NS and a pin drilled out of ring 3 3/8 x 4 NS2.  Difference basically as charlest says.  NS2 more arc great ball for longer sport patterns.  Love this ball on this kind of pattern that's what I keep it for.  Much the same as an Col. Alter Ego for me.  If you need a good sport ball for longer sport patterns the NS2 shines.

IMO......the NS will go longer and flip a bit more NS2 into a roll earlier and arc.  NS2 will need head oil and is more condition specific.  NS will be a ball that you can use on more patterns.  

Both balls great for what they were designed for.

While I understand what you did and why, I think you made a possible (!) mistake, IF you have a use for control balls. The NS2 is designed to maximize CONTROL. It is earlier and with less backend, the cornerstone of control, THAN the NS, which itself is VERY MUCH a control ball.

I have found thru VERY painful experience that most "control" balls are not really that, when backends are screaming AND the oil is applied short. That is when TRUE control balls make their appearance well known. The NS2 is a strongly oiled lane pattern control ball.

Most people will not find the NS2 of use; it is for heavy oiled short patterns where this ball reaches its zenith.

I tell you what I use my NS2 for, it is my second and third game ball for leagues. When the backends get a little moist and my BB gets alittle skiddy I whip out the NS2 and pound the pocket, I think due to the high particle load this ball just doesn't even notice carrydown. I enjoy the crap out of this ball, I know what I am getting everytime I get it out of the bag. Yes I think it would be a wonderful sport pattern ball. I have used it on a sport pattern my local center laid down to practice on, just squared up played straight down and in and shot a 212 out of the gate.
