Title: New Standard - 299
Post by: sullymatt on October 31, 2006, 11:05:58 PM
Shot 299 last night with an a ball that i have not used in about a year, the New Standard, solid 9 pin.   In my humble opinion the heaviest rolling ball ever.

Thanks,

Was throwing a Storm Thunderstuck Solid and figured why not go back to the ball and layout that really fits my game, Absolute Power is coming back out tonight for sure.

Another GREAT Lane Masters ball (I'm on my second AP - layout in profile); the AP is probably one of their most underappreciated ball and one of the hardest-hitting, IMHO !!!

I have only had the New Standard resurfaced once, and i still cannot believe how new the coverstock feels.  Lots of games on that ball and still like new.

What I love the most about their products is the tremendous hitting power and sound you get   To see the head pin flying 2 feet off the deck is great

What was really crazy last night, I wound up shooting 785 without a ball change.   I think I moved maybe 3 boards over the set.   Started off the night with a some polish than they grey scotchbrite   Have not had a night like that in a long time.   The best thing was to hear scratch bowlers complaining about the shot, trying every ball in their bags, it was nice to not have to switch.   Going to start the night off tonight with the NS and see what happens, my Wednesday night men's league i have been struggling so maybe the ball is the cure.   Too bad I am only a sixth man on tuesday.

Matt,
That core, as well as the cover on the NS, is a good "control/benchmark" ball ... it's a ball that doesn't overreact and isn't "flippy", so if you can get lined up with it and make subtle changes as the night goes on, the can stick with it (as long as the heads don't dry up).

Robb,

So true, I refuse to figure out why I ever took the NS out of my bag, especially when my A+++ game is right up 15

I believe you might be right.   There are a few other things i changed, shortened up my span a little, went from a reverse to a forward pitch and tightened up the thumb hole just a tad for a little better feel.   The ball is coming off the hand so clean, now if i can control the case of the occasional pulls by slowing down the feet I would be ok!

Matt,
A shorter span will allow you to get more revs off of your hand and the slightly tighter thumbhole will stopp you from "gripping" the ball, which will aid in maintaining a free armswing.
Pulling the ball is "NORMALLY" a speed issue (for me too); if you start with a definitive pushaway that is in time with your first step (2nd if you 5 step), release the ball into the aforementioned free armswing, roll (not throw) the ball, and follow through to your breakpoint/to a distant focal point, those "pulls" may lessen in frequency.

Better odds at bowling, aim at the headpin what is the worse that can happen....

Yeah ... and regardless of how bad that the shot is, you don't have to look for your ball !!!

Or wait for the beer cart.   Some pros about golf though, you don't always have to wipe your balls

249, 216, 219 last night with the NS.    Ball is definitely staying in the bag.

Hmmmm, I guess that I need to check with my "sources" again regarding this "shorter span and more revs" point ... More later.

Don't worry about the thread hijack, was a good discussion.   Been debating about whether or not i should put my Storm Equipment up for sale and go all LM....Wish they made a 3 ball bag too, my KR is falling apart....

Matt,
They just came out with a 3 ball roller and they should be available within a week or two (link to it below); just call Legends and ask for Theresa or Kristina at 1-888-526-3645 to order "L/LM" accessories or email her at
theresa@lanemasters.com (and tell them that Robb Laber "sent" you).

I spoke to Galen earlier today ... apparently there is a 1 ball tote that attaches easily to their new three ball roller; if you have any questions, call then at Legends or email Theresa. (Latest catalog link below)
