Lanemasters shutting down?
« on: February 12, 2011, 03:10:05 AM »
I heard thru a distributor that Lanemasters may be shutting down and getting out of the bowling ball business. What does this mean for all us Lanemasters fans?? Where will we go..

I don't know one way or the other but they have updated their website in the past few days and added new balls and new content.

MoRich Mania, RipR, Craze, Perpetual Motion, MOjave
LM Black Pearl, Xtreme Damage, The New Standard, MoRich Spare Ball

Yes they redid their web site, but they still dont have some balls on it. My driller said he heard they were shutting down too, and noticed they have removed Fred Bordons name from everything.

I am really bummed if this is true because I just bought a Black Diamond Reactive, and so far I LOVE THE BALL!!! It is not on their website still, which makes you go hmmmm But it is odd they updated their site and everything if they are going stop bowling ball production

Limited availabity and product cost was their issue if you would ask me.  To many companies are making mid price balls (Tropical Heat) (Burst) (Midnight Vibe) etc that perform so well today and they do not have any mid price balls at least that I know about here in Ohio....

No, they aren't shutting down.

I talked with an individual last week at Lane Masters and they are still on schedule to release the Black Diamond Pearl Particle later this month, the Extreme Damage Solid, the Tactical Strike and a few others this year.

Pat, is your friends at Lanemasters going to consider an Asymmetric core at some point, with every release, you get a ball that rolls sooner or later but they All just roll, most of the past user's of their equipment abandon them for backend snap, if Lanemasters is going to survive, they need to design a Asymmetric core, doing so will justify paying $50 more than other companies balls.

I haven't heard about any Asymmetrical Cores.

Personally, I doubt that an asymmetrical core ball (I assume you actually mean core with a strong mass bias) would "save" LM. It would IMHO be nothing that distinguishes the company/brand from others, they'd still be "me too" player. What actually set the apart in the past was their rather unique design with filler-less balls, high RG, lower diff. and durable covers - solid performers with "value for (lots of) money".

Since they tried to cut costs and compete in the mid range market, their star waned - much like IMHO MoRich, suffering from "normal" brands catching up with high MB cores.

Tough to tell where to go for LM, esp. when they are caught in a cost trap. But IMHO, they'd better re-assume their original brand identity and ball concept, since it would still be unique today and justify higher margins.

I would agree with dizzy, Lanemasters is known for symmetrical balls with high quality resin (no filler) that are very durable.  I would really like the company to bring back some of the discontinued balls such as the Masterpiece and Big Kahuna.  I would also like Lanemasters to improve their marketing (i.e. website, and other forms of communication with their customers).  Companies like Motiv are growing in part due to good marketing via their website and word of mouth (i.e. Motiv Nation).
