Hey guys, I'm really thinking about joining the Lanemasters Pro Shop program.  It isn't really a staff position, just a program for pro shops with a few incentives.  In the package comes 4 balls.  Say I were to drill the first 4 as a set for myself, what would you guys go with?  Geographically our conditions play on the drier side of medium no matter how long the pattern is.  Heads usually blow up first but that is never really  aproblem for me with my game.  I do bowl a PBA Experience League and a Scratch Tournament club that is always on sport, PBA, or modified sport patterns.  

My stats are in my profile.  To be honest, I don't have the slightest clue about what any of these balls do.  I think the Terminator is the biggest hooking piece(which would be pretty obsolete in my hand) and the Hornet is the lower end piece(which may not suit much of my needs either in a 4 ball lineup, maybe in a 6 or 8 ball lineup though).  

I'd appreciate all helpful suggestions from you guys.

Consider --

Black Pearl -- high flaring polished pearl-particle, great medium-heavy oil ball

Big-R-Bang -- polished reactive, gets down the lane and makes a pretty good move

Buzz -- Hooks a bit less than the Big-R

For the last ball...hmmm...I don't know, I would say a Terminator or a Big Bang, you can always change the surface, both seem to be really nice rolling balls, but for heavier oils...hope this helps!

my 2 cents are:

1. Hornet (driest of these 4, not "dry", but more light to medium-light oil)
2. Buzz (next driest, only because WCR handles more oil better and cover is softer than the Hornet's cover))
3. World Class Reactive
4. Masterpiece (handles more oil than the WCR up to medium+ oil)

Solely because of what you said I wouldn't recommend any stronger balls.

But the Black Pearl can barely be made useful for mediums, no less the drier side of mediums????

Charlest, keep in mind that the majority of my bowling is on PBA patterns, and sport/tournament conditions.  I only see a house shot once a week and lately I've been killing every one I see with an Ebonite Gametime.  I heard the Black Pearl has a rather high flare potential, I'm thinking maybe a 5" pin to PAP under the fingers may be enough for house patterns when I need to open them up, yet have something strong and controllable on the longer PBA Patterns and tighter sport conditions.

Which ball would be closest to the Absolute Inferno?  That seems like the only ball I'm going to have a hard time finding a replacement for.

But when you say the drier side of medium ...
I'm not sure that even a 5" pin would work for a BP., but then I haven't played with it extensively.

I'm inclined to say the Masterpiece, but since I haven't used an AI ...
Mine (both a 15 lb and a 16 lb one and several drillings on the 15 lb one) has always been strong, too strong for mediums, until I both put the pin above the ring finger (a very weak drill for me with an inverted track) AND used a Trizact orange pad on it and applied a strong dose of polish. Several other people here have also been surprised at this ball's strength.
