Title: Satisfaxion vs Big Kahuna...
Post by: DukeHarding on October 20, 2006, 12:34:01 PM
I have the Black Pearl and Straight Flush drilled up.

I have a Satisfaxion NIB, which I was going to sell.

Wondering how the BK reaction is compared to the Satisfaxion?

I know the BK is Particle, the Satisfax is Reactive...Looking at the marketing material the balls look like they get pretty much the same length, hook shape, BK would start earlier (because of the particle cover).

I would take it that the BK would react better on carrydown than the Satisfax would?

I'm guessing the Black Pearl is a stronger backend than the BK & Satisfax?

Right now I have a New Standard, NS2, Big Kahuna, Satisfaxion, and an AP2 (which I will probably sell, I don't like the color )...
Trying to put together some kind of arsenal...

Any and all, input suggestions are welcome.

Duke,
If you really like the Black Pearl, the NS and NS2 have the same core; if that core suits you and matches up well to your game, I'd suggest keeping and drilling them up; I've been using my NS as my benchmark ball, and although I have a NIB NS2, I haven't rolled one ... and you KNOW that I LOVE my BP !!! I HEAR that the NS2 core and heavy load particle cover make it a smooth-rolling, control ball.
Now, if I had to choose between the BK and the SatisfaXion, I'd say BK, hands down; I've had both and still have the BK ... nice core, and versatile whether used OOB or polished. BUT, if you want your mellower, lower-end stuff to be reactive resin, the SatisfaXion COULD work (I know another roomie that LOVES his and he has more than one).
Arsenal from what you said that you have (in this post)of:
- NS2
- Black Pearl
- NS
- BK
- Str Flush ... not bad, IMHO

Now ... I'm curious to "hear" what other threads "say" !!!

From my eyes, the BK will handle 3/4 to 1.5 higher level of oil than the Sfx. It is also, in box surface, much flippier, if a semi-dull solid particle could ever be said to be flippy. I liked the reaction of my 1 lb BK soooo much, that I never changed the surface of either my 15 lb or my 16 lb BK to experiment with surface. I am thinking more about doing that now, and you know how I love to do that.

With respect to the original NS, the BK's reaction is sharper and the overall amount of hook is less; both of those, I think, is because the BK flares less overall. Polish + special drills are the only combo that can make an NS flippy and I've yet to see one come anywhere near that reaction.

The NS2 will probably cover the BK, with the smoothness of the NS, plus a little.

The Black Pearl (from the BTM review I just saw today, 10/20) is nt a flippy ball but requires alsmot as much oil as the Terminator to be useful. KInd of annnoys me, that, as I just ordered one. So I assume it will handle even more oil than the BK and the NS.

Duke,

If the above is all true, I'd say the BP would be your oiler, with the BK just below that and the NS/NS2 being the control version, covering the BK's territory and lapping at the bottom of the BP's lower range of oil handling.
Sfx will cover under that, lapping the bottom of the BK's range.

FYI this issue of BTM also had a review of the Big/R Bang. It seems to be longer than the Wolrd Class Reactive, with the same backend and overall hook. So, it seems the Big/R Bang is to the WCR as the Big Bang is to the World Class.

I don't mean to be hi-jacking this Topic, but since the Black Pearl was brought into it I would like to add my communications with Galen...

My questions to Galen were....Will the Black Pearl.....

1. Turn the corner on less dry than the WCR?
2. Handle carry down better than the WCR?
3. Is the BP more versatile and will it handle a larger variety of lane conditions than the WCR?

Galen's reply was.....

Jim,

Yes to all 3 questions regarding the black pearl. This ball is very versatile with its high flare potential should handle the carry down very well. I would recommend a 4 x 4 layout with the pin even or slightly above the fingers. If you are looking for the ball to turn the corner a strong pin position is important.

I then asked about Pin under RF/Bridge layouts and Galen's reply was....

Jim,

Keep in mind putting the pin too low could cut down the kick off the pattern that you are looking for as well as too high could cause too much length, so we need to find a happy medium. The 4 x 4 layout is the strongest and should work well with this weight block which has strong mid lane built into it anyway. This ball matches up best with a player with some resemblance of tilt and axis rotation. Players that are slightly tilt challenged would be better off with the Terminator.

A 3” pin should be fine.

Two things pointed out by Galen in his second Email to me as you can see above were....

1. The ball has strong mid-lane built into it (in other words, with built in mid lane, be careful about placing the Pin too low)
2. If a player is slightly tilt challanged, then go with the Terminator and not the Black Pearl.

Brick,

I'd like to see someone confirm in practice that the Black Pearl will be able to handle less dry than the WCR. That statement by Galen surprises me a little. Normally a polished solid with less RG differential (less flare) will handle less oil (i.e. need more dry) than a similarly polished Particle pearl that flares more (has a higher RG differential.) That is, again, under normal circumstances - Legends balls are hardly normal or average.
