Title: Terminator ......... Flood capable?
Post by: Hand of God on August 04, 2006, 05:52:22 PM
If one was to say, knock off the polish and use a nice white or light grey scotch brite pad.... would the terminator handle the LONG FLOOD patterns?

This is based on a person with 17mph speed, 45 axis tilt, lots of hand, and a high rev rate?

Just imagine for a second?  It is THEE ball for heavy oil by LM/L's?

IMHO and my experience with it in two practice sessions (and still polished), yes ... but Galen would really be the one to ask this question.

OOB is the Terminator a medium condition ball?

I would say yes because I saw Chris Leftwich throwing his on wood lanes with less than medium oil late last Friday afternoon and he seemed to be having no problem with striking at will with his Terminator. I was bowling 4 lanes over from him and my World Class was hooking half way down the lanes and it's energy used up by the time it got to the pin deck, whereas Chris was simply destroying the rack with scouts flying every where every time he hit the pocket.

I would say that OOB it's a medium to medium-heavy ball; I rolled with it again today, and after a couple games of moving the oil around, it was stronger and I had to adjust and chase the oil line.
I actually "knocked the shine off" today before I left(took it to 1000 abralon), and I'll try it again on Wednesday.

So the Terminator would be a perfect comliment to the Big Bang?
My BB starts to bleed energy by the third and fourth game.

"Robo" ... IMHO, with that polished cover, it would indeed be that.

Not a flood ball in box i think world class is stronger in oil overall, i scuffed it down in the track area still alot less ball than the action max i had with exact drillings on them.

Interesting, Barry ... I believe that my WC is very strong too in that regard; I need to practice with the two of them again this week to compare ... good input and thanx !!!

I find the more oil i have the better the Wc becomes, still the new Action Max is oil monster even with a pin above the ring and no weight hole. I hate to say it the Action Max is easily 7-8 boards stronger even after the terminator was scuffed down to 1000 in track area. The terminator will have a home but it will be for games 2 and 3 of 1 st shift leagues, after the track has been blown open by the World Class and Action Max. I might even polish it up and play it as a swing ball on my 2 nd shift league, oob the masterpiece was stronger than the terminator also.

One thing to note my home house is now flooding the lanes because they are huge Ebonite shop pushing Infinite One's and Big One's. They do this to increase there pro shop business when everyone comes whining that the ball goes straight now. When i first started bowling there it was so dry that plastic hooked about 7 years ago, they figured out flooding the lanes makes them money in the pro shop.

Rob, note in my post about what Chris did with his Terminator, it appears that it will work for some people on less than medium oil. Of coarse, bear in mind that Chris has a lot of speed and a bunch of hand, so it might not work on the same conditions for someone like myself with slower speed and low revs. To sum it up, it's a case of matching the ball to the bowler.

I understand what people are saying and believe it, given the Terminator's polished finish.

However, in the new 2006/7 catalog, they now list, in their ball chart, the amount of oil a ball is designed to handle. Oddly the Terminator is listed as handling the largest amount of oil, more than the Big Bang and the World Class, and as having less length than the BB & the WC, their 2 previous best oilers.

Under normal circumstances, the more oil a ball can handle the earlier it will hook. With such balls as the WC and the BB and Brunswick's Ultimate Inferno and Strike Zone (Exact same covers, with exact same finish, but the SZ has a mass bias core, which makes it have more length and greater backend. They still handle the smae amounts of oil.), maybe we need to re-think the base characteristics of an "oiler".

So you're basically saying someone like me who like it long and have a late break will not work well with the WC, BB, and the Terminator..?? Or it all depends on the layout i pick for the ball. Because Personally I like polished balls over sheen finishing. So this is why I'm asking. THinking about gettin a whole new Arsenal with only polished L/L balls

It just depends on how the bowler throws.  I mean I hear all these people talking about taking it down to 1000.  There is no way I would get the reaction that I want out of the ball with that.  The polish lets me throw it a little harder and then snaps at the end of the lane.  I have used this ball in heavy oil and had to move right, but still works well and I have used this ball in less than medium and with speed and moving left this ball still works great.

Not at all. I was just commenting that some newer balls will handle more oil (be an oiler) with greater length than previously designed balls, which usually hooked earlier.

The WC and the BB seem to be able to handle heavier oils with longer than average lengths, but not extreme length. They will never do the "skid/flip" on TRUE heavier oil patterns.

As chrisleftwich says, more depends on your release and ball speed style/specifications, as to how any one ball or ball type reacts, when used on heavy oils.

I myself am not fond of the sheen finish on most of LM/L's particles solely because it is too difficult to emulate. I'd rather start out by changing the brand new ball to 800 or 1000 or 1200 grit (doesn't really matter) or even a 600 grit sanding PLUS a light polish; that way I know where I am to start with and I know where I need to go if I don't get a desired or needed reaction. Of course, having a spinner makes this a no-brainer for me, as I can change surfaces in moments at home.

Let me summarize by saying the Big Bang or the World Class, drilled normally (as you would any of your other oilers) should handle medium-heavy oil or heavier for many, if not most bowlers. I can't speak to the Terminator as I have no experience with it at all. For me, personally, the Yeah Baby! also easily handles medium-heavy oil with a relatively mild drilling (4x5, no weight hole). I am very glad the YB was not discontinued.

I don't know what your release and ball speed specs are; so I cannot say that polished balls will handle TRUE heavy oil for you. Few people throw that many revs to allow that.

Yes, drilling is of importance, which is why your driller should know how Lanemasters ball react with certain drillings or you or your driller should speak to Galen at Lanemasters, as has been recommended. You should have your release specs and ball speed when you call.

Speaking just for myself and from my experience with the BB, WC (I have 2) and the new Terminator; the WC core revs up very quickly for me and is VERY strong through the midlanes and on the back end (that's why I have 2 - see profile for latyouts and cover finshes), the BB WAS long and strong on the back end for me, but when I noticed a hairline crack around the middle finger(fixable with a drillout/plug/redrill), I sold it (layout wasn't working for me), and the Terminator revs up a bit later than the WC but earlier than the BB(due, I believe, to it's core and the polished cover). BTW, I just hit the "T" with a 1000 abralon pad to smooth out the reaction a little and to maintain it's back end potential.
Right after practice yesterday, I had my pro shop take the cover of my WCR to 1000 abralon too (after trying it with an 800 gray pad surface ... again, the idea being to smooth out the overall reaction WITHOUT losing anything on the back ends (it still needs a balance hole to get it legal - need to take out just over 1/2 oz of side weight, and Galen will be advising me on the specs for that hole later this week). I'll know more about how those "new" surfaces work after my 2 practice session later this week.
Still, overall, I'm extremely pleased with both the Terminator and the WCR; I'm simply "tweaking" the covers with surface adjustments, a WH of the WCR, and possibly one on the "T" too ... time will tell.

As always Charlest you've given me more insight on things and in detailed might I add. Thanx! Now all I need to do is just find my numbers (PaP, Axis Tilt, Ball Speed, etc..)

Well kudos to you too Rob for helping me out with questions at times.

No prob, "True"; as always, I feel that Galen is the final word on issues/questions relative to the "L/L" line. Good luck !!!

I've got a Big Bang, box condition.  Pin under ring finger. CG kicked out at a 45 degree angle.   Just received my Terminator.  Thinking about Pin besides the ring finger.  CG kicked out at a 45 degree angle.  Will this give me my reaction a little more push with more flare potential?  Thanks for any help.

"Robo",
I'd send an email with that question to Galen at galen@lanemasters.com and call him late tomorrow or before the end of the week (he was at a trade show in SoCal and gets back on Weds, the 9th). Number there is 1-888-526-3645.
Good luck !!!

Let me say this the terminator is by no means a weak ball, but in the polished state they are selling this ball it is nowhere near the world class or other big oilers made by other companies. The Action Max and HAwgzilla handle much more oil than the polished terminator, yes it does hook in heavier oil but it starts way to late for my lower revs and higher speed. It is good ball i do not have enough games to condemn the ball as being a great ball, i do not see it being the first ball for me out of the bag for oiler shots.

Mine is supposed to be here by thursday. I'm just hoping it will be smooth, & strong with a continuous move through the pins. Can't wait to try it!
