Ultimate Power reaction AWESOME BALL
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:23:00 AM »
Ball came with a 3 inch pin and around 3 top..

Ball drilled pin over bridge cg kicked out slightly...

Ball is perfect for me when the lane breaks down.  I would compare it to my buzz with slightly less backend BUT A CRASH when it hits the pins..  257,279 out of the box on a broken down sumer house shot.. Looks like the old Dynothane 357 Magnum if any of you remember that one...

This is a very special ball.

I drilled one for a friend of mine that uses only Lane Masters and he also told me yesterday after a tournament that he was disappointed in the movement in the backend. He said it was identical reaction to his Sure Strike and not much different from his Solid Strike. I've drilled probably 5 L/M balls for him and he said that he's going to drill some different stuff cause it's not the look he's after.

Just so you guys know I am not bashing the ball I just don't understand why they came out with two balls back to back with very similar reactions. Solid strike shined and this ball are very close with the back end edge going to the solid strike,  and it's by no means flippy. I have drilled nothing but LM stuff for over 2 years but there are some holes in the lineup that need to be filled.  I guess I am just looking for a low RG slightly lower diff version of the black diamond with a more aggressive cover.  What about a stronger version of the Buzz Attack?  I think LM need something to compete with the Storm or  Ebonite made stuff in heavy oil.  I mean you have the Dynamic but it is missing that pop on the back and there is nothing there to fill that gap.

As far as something being "rotten in Denmark" I don't know why you would say that but I am just letting you know what I am getting out of the ball.  Two different centers, two different shots,  two different drill patterns and I was 2 and one right with the Ultimate than the solid strike on both shots.  My avg ball speed is around 18.5,  400-425 rpm range, 45deg axis rotation, axis point 4-7/16 over 7/16 up.  SS has the pin 4" from the axis point with a 2" buffer cg near the center of grip,  close to label leverage.  Ultimate pin is 4.5" from the axis and the pin right below the fingers with the CG 3.5" with no balance hole.  I would think that the edge should go to the Ultimate in back end but it doesn't.  Up until now the SS was the smoothest of all the LM stuff I have on the back.

I am going to play around with the ball and maybe put a small balance hole around p4 to see if I can get a little more reaction.  I think I will take the SS back down to 1000 and keep the Ultimate shined just so I can separate the reactions a little more.

"Something rotten" implies ONLY that we know something is wrong but we don't know what. The balls are different (coverstocks, flare, & RG) so they should react diferently. Keep in mind that house oil patterns often hide the differences between balls.

I know you are not bashing it and this is your opinion and I appreciate it. We only made 4 balls last year because we needed to do what was best for the business. We will be filling holes this year for the bowlers. This ball is still a great ball for many others. Also by making it THS friendly I'm trying to attract new customers and do not want to drive away the faithful. Stick with me guys we are going to be turning heads this year. Thanks.

Yes we poured the first balls today. We're still unpacking but this is a much better facility and we will be fully operational in a day or two.

Thanks for your explanation Tony,  and I am patiently waiting for some new exciting stuff from you guys.

charlest,  thanks for your reply.  I just didn't want to come on here and make people think I was here to create conflicts. I guess I misunderstood what you meant by that so I apologize.  I am well aware that a house pattern can mask the reaction of a ball.  I realize how much changing the type of oil, humidity, temperature etc. can affect the condition. Being a former pro shop operator/owner and proprietor I hope I can come here and be a positive contributor to this section.

UPDATE:
Now that I have had a chance to throw it on the kegel middle of the road pattern I still believe it is too close of a match to have the Ultimate and the solid strike for a typical house bowler on a THS.  As far as differences they are still very close overall but the ultimate being a little cleaner through the fronts carried better than the Solid Strike. I was still only 2 and 2 right but liked the overall reaction slightly better than the solid on this pattern.  With some surface changes I can still have two very useful pieces of equipment to choose from.
