Yeah Baby
« on: February 15, 2008, 09:22:35 AM »
Hello Group

Since I just got a 15lb HORNET, I was thinking about getting a 15lb Yeah Baby however, I was wondering if the Yeah Baby is one of those balls that has huge amount of resin in it along with the core.

If so there is a fellow selling one in the for-sale forum and I think I would like to pick it up  (to be used in the 6:00 league for game one and two)

The Yeah Baby! is one that has no filler...100% resin to the core.

All of the Legends balls are core/cover, no filler.  Some of the new Lanemasters equipment has filler, starting with the Sure Strike.

I've got a Yeah Baby and it's my favorite ball right now.  I put a light coat of the Legends polish on it because it was too strong with the stock finish and it's clean through the heads, decent midlane, and a LOT of backend for a high load particle ball.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I just got back from my 6:00 league and I got to actually use my new 15lb HORNET in the 3rd game and all I can say is WOW!!

That dry lane ball is everything that I could want in a ball and more...its a sweet thing

So what I'm looking for now is a ball that I can play at my house where the house shot is typically oil from the foul-line and about 38'long (just guessing though)

and its not the Christmas tree pattern as the oil goes straight across from around the 5/6 board to the other 5/6 board.

I can swing it or play straight up the 1st arrow, however, I now want a ball to throw up the 9/10 board for the first or second game.

I'm kinda tired of going coast to coast so I have been changing my game to play up the boards so I take any suggestions on a LaneMasters ball to play up the boards.

I don't really know what my speed is but I'll guesstimate its around 16/17-mph and I have a pretty good amount of revs too. My last few balls that I have had were drilled with the pin up over the bridge so I can play up the boards with a lot more control.

Here's what the seller has left:

LANE MASTER/LEGENDS
Buzz 15-1 /3t/2 3/8p $110
AP2 15-1 /3t/3p $90
New Standard2 15-3 /3t/3.5p $105
Yeah Baby 15-2 /3.25t/3 1/8p $110
BigRBang 15-0/3t/2 5/8p $115
World Class Reactive 15-3 /3t/3 3/8p $115
World Class Particle 15-0 /3.25t/3 7/8p $115
Terminator 15-2 /3t/3 3/8p $115***SOLD***Thanks Brad
Flush 15-3 /3.75t $85

so what would you guys/gals recommend? and thanks for the help, Jake

have my buzz drilled pin over ring.

im doing just what you said. tired of swinging it UNLESS its needed, such as chasing the oil.

so ive switched my game to keeping my revs but freeing up my swing and just using my wrist that way im a LOT more accurate. I tell myself that I need to read the lanes so I can repeat shots instead of ripping the cover off the ball every shot only to throw a few amazing shots to leave a couple splits keeping me under 200 all night.

i think it depends on how much oil is out there I guess. if its medium-light up to medium (may need to take off the polish) then the buzz is a great ball and would have the same hook shape of the hornet you have as they share the same core.

i havent tried any other l/lm balls so i dont know about the rest

How about the AP2 or the World Class Particle with polish? would that be an OK ball for a med-oil shot while playing up the boards?

Jake,

Please realize that only by sheer unadulterated luck can anyone guarantee that you'll be able to play "up the boards" with any ball via words and the remote control way as ballreviews or any bulletin will allow.

The safest way is by your local pro shop, driller or other local expert who is watching you IN PERSON.

AND unless you give a lot more details about your delivery, release, ball speed etc, and the oil pattern (much beyond "med-heavy" or flat oil) and the lane surface, any suggestion or drilling or surface preparation will be ONLY a wild guess at best.

PLease note that I know many Lanemasters balls as well as most people and better than most, and if I could have given you a reasonable suggestion, I would have. I cannot and do not understand how anyone can make a reasonable suggestion based on the data available.

yup charlest is correct. just like many things on forums on various subjects we simply cant give you an answer.

there are simply too many variables.

heck i can throw a ball on 2 different houses with the same volume of oil and 1 I can play up the boards the other I need to swing. so if thats true how could we (who have little to no knowledge of your game) suggest a ball to do something specific?

I dont need to say more as charlest already said it.

charlest and icewall thanks for the reply. Yes, I do understand that a ball will act a certain way under a certain condition but me not knowing anything about Lanemasters was basically just asking in a generally speaking kind of a way

I was just wondering with the balls that the fellow had listed if any were do-able for playing up the boards, I think some are if I keep the ball fairly polished and of course ther still needs to be some oil out there

Heck, right now I have been throwing a Morich 'Leverage' up the boards but I really have bought into the Lanemasters idea on how a ball should be made and their whole concept of bowling balls

I think their web-site is amazing too, I just wish more were made at that caliber. I think I'll try the Yeah Baby as that ball everyone seems to talk well about it...and I'll go from there.

Of course the BigRBang seems nice too, anyway, I let you all know what I have chosen when the deal is completed. Thanks, Jake

OK, so I did end up getting the Yeah Baby so how does this sound for a 3 ball arsenal for someone like me starting off with L/Ms?

1) Oil ball Yeah Baby....on the way

2) Med/lite oil BigRBang ....future purchase

3) Dry oil Hornet....I already have this

so I think I have the basics covered here so it should be an interesting Spring for me....just getting ready

Sounds like a fine trio to start with.

I'd state one thing though: for medium and medium-heavy oil, boththe BRB and th YB go slightly longer than average, but both still handle their intended oil target. So, if you have more ball speed than rev rate, I'd suggest drilling these balls with a relativvely low pin position, like below the level of the bridge area or closer to the PAP than you might normally. (I mean like 4" instead of 5" or 3.5" instead of 4.5".)

Good luck.
