The Buzz, Opinions.........
« on: February 24, 2008, 09:01:36 AM »
Hey guys. I have a Terminatior and Black Pearl and like them both so far.
I decided to try a Buzz but haven't seen many throw it at all.

For those of you that have one, please let me know your experiences.

Thanks.

Lots of recovery on an inside line, far too strong for any outside line FOR MY RELEASE, great hitting and carry power. Not too flippy even with my stacked 4x4 drill. Can handle some carrydown (for me and my release). Needs head oil and some midlane oil. Surprisingly strong for such a "weak" (much sarcasm intended) core. Definitely taking it to Nationals.

yea, I hear you charlest on that, it is stronger than advertised. I had a 4x4 drill on mine at first, big mistake, WAY to strong, redrilled pin over ring, CG about an 1 1/2in from grip center. much smoother arc, but still strong, can play inside or outside with great carry.

Well i got a Buzz and drilled it up yeterday afternoon. I ended
up laying it out 5 x 4 with the pin over ring and the cg kicked out with a x-hole straight across.

I subbed last night in a friend's league which is second shift. There were 3 people in the league bowling our pair who was using plastic throwing it down the middle and off the corner. So there is definitely going to be some carry down. I got on the lanes and was very surprised how smooth this ball was. I played up the track and it just stayed in play and crushed the pocket. Both lanes were different.

I shot the 278 - 267 - 180 for 725.

Last game was frustrating because of the transition and also an individual on the other team that first was using a plastic ball up the middle inside my line in game one and two then deicded to pull out a sanded dull ball and play on top of me. It's a learning lesson as always but i had fun. The BUZZ is awesome and i can't wait to try it at other centers.

me and you have the exact same drill except my CG is about 1/2in. closer to center grip. Yea ball rolls smooth, not near as jerky as other pearl balls I have seen.

I had a Buzz and it didn't match up to me no matter what kind of surface I tried on it. The hit was soft and pin carry not good. In fact I tried 4 L/LM balls and 3 of them didn't match up to me and work well at all, with the 4th one being the Black Pearl which did pretty fair on the right condition, but it was condition specific for me and not versatile like balls from other companies, so I disposed of all of them.

Bet you they were bad drillings.
Your release and ball speed are very sensitive to those issues.

I saw a guy throwing a ball much like you describe yourself, using a labelled drilled Sure Strike, last week, on the pair next to us. He threw a 258 on a 180 average and was killing them with it. The Sure Strike is a Buzz with slightly more length and most other traits the same. His was drileld very simply: CG in grip center, Pin above and right of the the ring finger. Deat stroker.

Lazy 10,

I'd suggest redrilling your Buzz similarly to the way you drilled the Black Pearl. The way you drilled the Buzz is the probable cause of the ball reaction you get with it. It has a highish RG and a fairly low differential. It will be lots more predictable with the lower pin.

Was there any special reason for that drilling?

I'm actually thinking about getting the "Buzz" as I would like a ball that is kinda tame but yet stronger then the "Hornet" which I have also.

Btw, the "Hornet" is a great lite-oil ball and its 'The Bomb' on a PBA league shot when everyones struggling after the lanes dry up

Now throwing pretty much all flavors...

charlest,

I drilled my Buzz this way because I have had sucess with this layout on other reactive pearls in the past.  I debated about it because of the weak core numbers, but with all of the talk about how strong the cover stock is, I decided to go with it.  I think that I will plug it and put the pin closer to leverage before I give up on it.

I understand. Many Lanemasters balls are different in some subtle, some not so subtle ways.

Most other pearls, like the BP, have a large Rg differential for lots of flare. The Buzz doesn't. Still kind of surprised it didn't work, but sometimes it will.

I don't think you have to go full leverage, maybe 4" to as much 4.5" should work. My only suggestion is to put the pin lower, maybe at or below the level of the bridge area, depending on your PAP. Again, depending on your PAP, Below the ring finger or below the center of the bridge could be good, safe.
