Lane Courtesy During Warm-ups??
« on: April 13, 2006, 01:20:56 PM »
Has anyone evr noticed that during warm-ups, that there are some bowlers who expect lane courtesy?  I really think that is so stupid, afterall all it is primarily for, is to loosen and warm up.  I could care less if someone is up and starts their approach with me; there is so little time for practice that it should be utilized to its fullest.  I would like to read the thoughts of others to see what they think.

Personally, I try to go with one lane courtesy, not because I get distracted or anything, just because I don't want to get kicked in the face when two people hit the line at the same time...

But yes, for me, practice is getting the arm loose and getting shots in...

During practice, I'll look to either side.  If someone is getting set up before me, I'll let them step on the approach and begin.  Once they are in their approach, I'll get set up and start.  Usually ends up that I start once their ball is on the lane.  I do that because I feel I'm not making others get rushed, and I know that for some people it's important that they get the ball sitting on their hand right.  Think of Tommy Jones turning his thumb, it would probably mess him up a little if he had to just stick his hand in the ball and go.

I won't mind less lane courtesy during warm ups but as stated is getting kicked or kicking someone else.  I have accidently kicked someone because we both hit the line at the same time .

Your work lies in front of you, not to the side.  Two lane courtesy is archaic and should be abolished.  If any method of courtesy is perfect, it's the method during regional play, the alternate pairs method.

I LOVE the PBA Regional Lane Courtesy...one from the pair to the left goes, one to the pair on the right goes, then you go...it's so much faster.  In practice..I won't go if the person right next to me is going..other than that..go go go.....there's no such thing as lane courtesy during warm ups..however it does bother me if the person on the lane directly next to me goes at the same time I am...other than that...who cares?

One lane is all you need for practice.  You only have 10 - 15 minutes with up to ten people trying to get warmed up. One lane also avoids running into the person on the other lane.

10-15 minutes?!?! That must just be a US thing as over in England you get 5 minutes,no matter how many people are in the team!!!!!

I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

I give some courtesy, though I won't wait until they're off the approach before I throw my shot.  Mostly it's to keep me from running into them or them into me.  Also, if you're on the same pair, it helps keep several balls from jamming in the ball return.

Practice should be faster than league, regardless of what kind of lane courtesy you use in league.  You seriously need to calm down if you expect two lane courtesy or PBA lane courtesy during practice.
