Do i need another ball?
« on: August 28, 2007, 09:00:20 PM »
Right now I have a Storm Xfactor, Brunswick TimeZone, and I just ordered a Storm SureFire. Do i need another ball? I figure the Xfactor can cover light to medium oil, the TimeZone can cover anything i need it to, and same for the SureFire.

Do you guys think I need another ball?

Sometimes people buy knew or used balls to help there mental game, as i do also at times. You may not need another ball, but if you are in a slump another ball is a sure way to recovery...

The question is... are you satisfied with your arsenal? Is it working whereever you bowl? Do you have an arsenal that covers all the patterns and conditions you might see?

If the answer is yes... you don't need another ball (excep a plastic maybe)

I for now carry a two/three combo of a pearl a solid and a plastic and I found that whatever condition I face around here.. there is a way to play one of the two reactive successfully. Well I have to admit that I mainly face THS patterns... sometimes even no oil at all and very rarely real heavy stuff.... so...

My advice is not to cut it down "I have this ball.." but how you feel about your arsenal.

No matter what balls you have.. it all comes down how you get along with them.

My 0.02.

Besides the plastic, have you considered a solid?

Thanks guys, I think I will hold off for now and see how it goes (I dont even have the sure fire yet, and I just got my xfactor resurfaced)

I dont really need a spare ball. I learned to break my wrist on 7 pins (lefty) so i can through the ball straight.

You're a lefty!  NO you don't need another ball.  In fact, you've wasted your money on the ones you have.  Pick your favorite and sell the rest.  Naturally, I'm assuming you bowl on the typical house shot.  Lefty + house shot = only need 1 ball bacause the line never changes.

The issue is almost never about needing another ball.  Once you accept that, you will know what to do.

If i decided to go with another ball what wuold you guys recommend? (keep it with Storm, Hammer, or Brunswick )

I was looking at
from storm: Spitfire
from Hammer: The Raw hammer toxic, or doom, or the black widow pearl
from Brunswick: BVP Rampage, or Red Zone

Depends on what you want the ball for... I would say the spitfire will be too similar to the sure fire unless you drill one with 1" pin-PAP and the other 6" pin-PAP...

Okay, well I just got back from bowling and I didnt do so hot. This is my 4th week in and I have been doing absolutely horrible. Today I shot a 170, 102, and a 147. This is very frusturating since I use to average in the 190's - 200.

I didnt bowl for over a year, so I know that Im not going to get right back in where I left off, but come on a 102?

Today I through my TimeZone, and a few shots with my resurfaced X-Factor.

With my TimeZone, and the line I play with is over the 2nd arrow, so about the 10 board, and maybe a few boards in from there. What would happen is I would either pull it just a board, maybe 2 and it would hit high, usually leaving me a nice split. Now If I missed my mark to the outside, and it went to about the 8 board the ball never made it back to the pocket, and most times it would also leave me a nice split.

I have a feeling that I was just playing the wrong line for that ball, as I noticed since the ball hooks *earlier* that even if I did through it where i wanted it would still hit high.

Now as far as my Xfactor goes it was not pretty. The ball went about as straight as an arrow, maybe moving 5 boards at the max. The ball used to hook, and I used to be able to play the line I like (stated above) with it, but for some reason on these lanes I cant.

I figure I need a ball for medium to heavier oil thats going to have pretty strong backend so when I get it outside it can make it back to the pocket.

I also figure I need lots of practice to get back into things but thats another issue

Anyways, would ball would you guys recommend, that can go long with good backend, it more medium oil conditions, maybe on the heavy side besides the Black Widow Pearl.

Would the Toxic be a good ball? Any sugestions would help, and remember I have a SureFire on the way.
