Thumb hole tightness
« on: August 27, 2007, 04:22:15 PM »
Just how tight should your thumb hole be?  Should there be any wiggle room in the thumb hole?  I ask becuase I feel I have to grip the ball so hard with my thumb.  It's causing a minor full roller.  Thanks for any replies,

Zach

Just got my tape and put some in. When I put my thumb in it feels a little snug but I can still take it out without too much trouble. During my swing (testing at home)it feels like the ball is tightening around my thumb (a sign of gripping maybe?) but I also feel myself not applying pressure with my thumb, it's like the ball is applying the pressure to my thumb. I'm unsure of how my release will go since I can't practice that in the house Does this seem like a normal feeling? Should I apply more tape?

Deadbait you must be a thumb setter as well.  Don't see too many people still setting a thumb with the base.  Really is a shame it always works and you never squeeze.  Some of you guys may want to look into the thumb setting technique it was mentioned a few months back in BTM.

Hmm, testing my swing more with the tape, I feel like when I go bowling I'll get a blister just under the joint on the left side on the back of my thumb. Pretty sure this is a sign of knuckling, but I can't seem to stop it and adding another piece of tape makes it uncomfortably tight.

Yep! mw11x300 is right on.  You need to try the thumb setting technique.

I guess I'm a thumb setter, just never knew it till I looked up exactly what it is. Always did it as I have alot of loose skin on the back of my thumb knuckle. If I don't "set" it, it will hang up on me unless the hole is entirely too loose.

Basically you bury your thumb in the whole way, then back it out a hair to bunch up the skin on the thumb.
