Keeping your "CORE" steady and upright!
« on: February 01, 2006, 07:48:40 PM »
Been working with Mark Baker the past couple months, things are starting to shape up. The main points we are working on is walking taller to the line, getting the left arm out for balance soon, and keeping everything above the waist as steady as possible.

Nice posture at the line.
How about keeping your non-bowling leg on the floor?
Did Mark mention that?
My coach's wife is a nag about it...said it cuts your bowling life short,
due to knee stress and knee problems later.

Trailing leg on the ground isn't a major point. You may be right for your knees' sake, but it's secondary. Many pros have theirs in the air.

Ive heard about keeping your Core more straighter and it will keep your game more balanced, something im sure im not doing in my own game. As for Keeping your trailing leg on the floor, that might work for some. If my leg isnt to the side and off the ground, I lose all my power at release.

FOr Mr. Duke...

Putting trail foot on ground destroys knee or preserves it??

As a guy who has usually put mine on ground I see some problems regarding that method.

Having the trail leg on the deck can take pressure of the slide leg. It depends on style, I drop mine to the deck because it helps my balance.

Putting the trailing leg on the ground, keeps rotatoinal torque off the joint.
My coach has a list of bowlers who developed knee problems...
Don Carter, Earl Anthony, Walter Ray Williams (reason for weight loss), and more.
I lost 60 pounds, or I wouldn't be bowling myself.
My knee is in very bad shape, so is my slide foot and ankle...after 50 years of bowling.
I still kick my foot up, and twist a bit come through the ball, when I bowl well. When I plant the trail leg, I have to square up more, and do not get as much on the ball.

The trailing leg needs to clear strong so I have time to "catch" the ball at the center of gravity!

If you want a strong core, does this mean you're going to start Pilates soon?
