What to do?
« on: June 21, 2004, 11:41:01 PM »
The thread about quitting made me think of this.  I'm bowling a summer scratch league, sport shot type (not that it matters for the purposes of this).  We started with 14 people (singles league).  One guy appears to have gone back to China; at least he hasn't shown up after the 3rd week.  How do we handle this?  Suggestions have included:
1) figure the league average with this guy and his opponent bowl against the average.
2) figure this guys average and bowl against it.
3) bowl against the league average, minus this guy.
4) bowl against the league average, with or without this guy, for each game.
5) bowl against your own average, minus (or not) x amount of pins.
6) other.

I'd be interested in hearing what y'all would do.

your average minus 10 or his average minus 10
we have done it both ways where I bowl the rule was always set before the league started though

If his average is close to the mean of the league it probably doesn't make much difference.  However if he was real high or real low it probably should be geared to his average so as not to unduly punish or reward the guys who bowled against him before he left.

This is a league with averages all over the place.  His was among the lowest.
