Arsenal Help
« on: August 20, 2007, 07:03:36 AM »
My current arsenal consists of:
Flood-Total Shock and Awe Pin down
Heavy- Angular One- Pin up
Medium-Heavy - Roto RSP Pin up
Medium-Light- Desert Heat Pin Down
Desert/Spare?

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the space in my arsenal on the extremely light side/spare side. I would like one ball that would cover both conditions if possible. I am a rev dominant bowler and I have read alot about the lane 1xxxl's but was wondering if they were really worth the money? Do you see any other gaps in my arsenal? Any help would be appreciated.

If you're rev dominant, I wouldn't consider anything other than straight plastic for spares, and you can use it on really toasty stuff as well if the need arises.   I don't see any noticeable gaps, though maybe you could look into a solid reactive for medium oil just for a different look than what you have now.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Thanks splendor. I agree with you. Can I just get any old plastic spare ball or should I get one with a core? How about urethane?
I never thought of a solid reactive but I think you are right on the money. Any suggestions on one?

I'll suggest the Horizon Solid.  It will make a great benchmark ball.

If you can't throw a straight ball at spares you definitely need plastic.  If you can break your wrist back and straighten a more aggressive ball out, consider a Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle, pearlized urethane with a good core.  The ball is discontinued, but last week All Star Bowling still had them available.  --  JohnP

I believe in the pure plastic route for spares.  Why bother with trying to change your shot when you can pick up a plastic and throw it straight as an arrow?  What do the majority of guys on tour use?  Plastic!  And they're a HELL of a lot better than me at changing their shots!!  Besides, what'll it set ya back, 50, 60 bucks?

Thanks to all for the replies. It really helps as I am trying to get better at this game. I have tried to "break my wrist" and shoot at spares but I am not consistent. I would just like to find a spare ball that I could possibly use when the lanes are like a desert for a strike ball. Thanks again for everything.
Thanks directdrill for the suggestion on the horizon solid. I will have to look into that.
