15 Vs 16
« on: April 05, 2008, 03:05:30 PM »
Hello, Iv noticed a big diffrence in my carry since last year... I used 16 lb stuff last year and made the switch this year to 15 lbs and have really noticed alot of corner pins... It just seems like the shot that would carred with a 16 lb does not with a 15 lb. Im not a big power player I throw 16 mph I like to play straighter. I have 275 revs, and a pap of 5" stright over. I feel my carry % has droped since the switch, has anyone else had this problem

1. Spell check...........
2. With that PAP,you're a high tracker and low rev rate player.15 pound stuff will hit like a wet pancake thrown against the wall-----no drive. If you want to throw 15,you'll need to drill the balls stronger. You'll also have to play with duller covers on just about everything except a ball for dry lanes.

That's kinda generic.  My PAP is 5 1/4" over, 3/4" up, and my rev rate is slightly lower at 250rpm.  Yet I get very good pin action with 15 lb equipment, and almost never throw anything duller than 2000 abralon.  However, I also put a big emphasis on rolling the ball and staying up the back of it as much as possible, and I try to play high flush whenever possible.  Swisher pocket hits do carry very well in some houses though, so I can use that as well.  The key for me is to avoid trying to hook the ball too much and play a little more direct, and let the ball roll hard so it can get good continuation.

i dont think theres any difference between 15 and 16lb balls except for the feel of the extra weight.

I throw 15lb around 300 revs and track high yet i carry better then my friend who throws nothing but 16lbs and has around 350+ revs and more speed then me.

i just think it throws some peoples game off. so used to throwing one weight then remove that pound and it just doesnt carry the same because it throws you off.

thats just my pinion

Maybe so,but on several occasions,Randy Pederson has mentioned on the pro telecasts that the extra pound--16's-- has made a difference in carry for several players.
I realize that I made a few generic remarks in my first reply. They're more from my own experience and I should have asked the original poster those questions.
