Hi Bowling Friends - One of my young students wants to learn the Two Handed Technique. Just a newbi. I posted the question at the Jason Belamote web site. Just tried. No great expectations. I just put him into the Storm HighRoad Max. He was traditional and than changed his mind. I am considering the Tropical Storm or the Hustle. Any thoughts? Thank you - Coach Denny

Been a two hander since the early 1990s. I, too, made a transition from one to two handed. Average 215ish one handed and over 230 with two.
The biggest thing is what kind of ball speed does he have? Most two handers are already going to have rev rates of 450 and higher. So ball speed is, in my opinion, the biggest factor when choosing a ball for a lane condition. Is your student primarily bowling on local house shots? If so, this is what I would recommend:
If ball speed is around 16-17 mph, look at something like a Beast by Columbia or the new Raw Hammer set to release or even a Hustle PBR.
If ball speed is more like 18-20, look in to something like a Phase II by Storm, Idol Synergy by Roto. You could even get away with plugging and redrilling the MAX.
On the flipside, if his speed is not there yet and it is more like 14-15, then look in to a Messenger by Columbia, Twist by Brunswick, or Tropical Surge by Storm.
Main thing is give him something he can control. If he cant control what he is throwing, especially just starting out, he will get discouraged. As you may have noticed, I pretty much stayed with all symmetrical balls as asyms can tend to be a little too much starting out. Start simple and build from there.

He can go out and practice without plugging the ball. Nothing illegal during practice. If his ball speed is there, then go plug it. If the ball speed is too slow and he is having a difficult time keeping it on the correct side of the lane, then either sell the ball and use the money towards a future purchase or put it in the closet and hold on to it until he gets stronger and the ball speed gets to where it needs to be to use effectively.
