Anybody ever try 'LA's Totally AWESOME SEE CHARLEST COMMENTS
« on: December 23, 2007, 07:58:18 AM »
I've been using EBONITE POWER HOUSE ENERGIZER CLEANER on bowling balls for years. A bowling buddy of mine bought me a 20 oz. bottle (with spray) of AWESOME that he claimed paying $1 for.

I'm not a believer so I clean my balls with The EBONITE then I figure I'll try the AWESOME on the same ball. I was shocked at the additional oil that came off the ball. I spray the liquid on a rag then rub the ball.

On the AWESOME bottle it states NO ACID/NO AMMONIA/NO BLEACH/NON-FLAMMABLE!

Am I at risk using AWESOME (full strength) on my bowling balls?

what about cutting the awesome with the alcohol, say 50/50. that might take some of the bite and toxins out of tha awesome straight, just a question? i use the awesome out in my garage and it is pretty strong even out there.

That's like being half-pregnant. You're pregnant or you're not. It's either toxic or it's not.

Pretty much everything is toxic. Pure oxygen will destroy your lungs, and vitamin A toxicity has killed many people over the years. Overdose on Tylenol and alcohol and if you don't die, you'll probably need a liver transplant.

cool rockin daddy,

Yes, Indeed, Totally Awesome does say that it contians 2-butoxy ethanol, explicitly.

When the website I went to and made available here says you should use rubber gloves AND goggles, that bothers just a little bit.

Those of who who say "there's just enough in any one of these cleaners so that I am safe", may be deluding yourself. It reminds me of many other political and religious situations which I will not go into.

Our sense of smell is not what it used to be in human beings because nature has decided that, where we are genetically, we don't need it much anymore. But I will tell you this, if my nose says it doesn't smell right to such a degree as this does, I have a strong feeling that there's more of this chemical in Totally Awesome and in Black Magic Rejuvenator than is safe for human use. I believe the danger, the risk is higher than I wish to take.

I don't want to get into any argument over it and I won't. If you feel safe, fine. I do not. I won't try to convince anyone to use anything I do and I won't try to convince you not to use anything you want to use. As I always try to do here on ballreviews, I present what I have found. You follow your own path.

i did a test today with it.

cleaned ball with clean n dull real good.  than use the totally awesome, and it picked up some more oil off the ball.

than i cleaned another ball with totally awesome real good.  got alot of junk out of ball.  than used clean n dull on same ball and it didnt pick up anything.

conclusion...

totally awesome is a really good cleaner but it also took some of the color out of the logo.  actually softened the colors and with a wipe of a cloth you could see the transfer.  clean n dull is just as good and probrably safer for some of you who are a little more cautious with health concerns.

the bottle does say "dilute before use", but on the back it also says to use full strength on some applications

Your tests seemed to conclude that Awesome cleaner pulled up more oil. Why do you feel C&D is just as good? Nothing hidden here because I'm a big fan of C&D for it's cleaning ability and the tacky feel it leaves.

Regardless, I don't like the idea of any cleaner that picks up color off the logos....

im sorry, i shouldve stated that although it picked up more oil it wasnt a whole bunch.  just a little, but the more i wiped over the orange logo the more orange came off.  and that may be detrimental to the ball in the long run.  maybe someone can chime in if they have used it on one ball many times, if that said ball is still going strong?

Gunny: Thanks for posting your tests. But for me, based on what you've posted, no thanks on the product. At $1.00 for a 20 oz bottle, this stuff is right up Joe Falco's wheel house, but the product is scary.

There are too many other proven products on the market to take a chance on stuff like this....

Taking the color off of a ball can happen sometimes to any ball with any cleaner. For example, I had a ball last year that the color of the ball and logos came off on my cleaning towel every time I cleaned it with Legends Cleaner, but when I cleaned it with Black Magic Rejuvenator or Clean & Dull, that didn't happen, plus Legends Cleaner with it's overly strong-potent odor can interupt people's breathing if they have  emphysema, lung disease or other breathing problems. I KNOW this for fact because I AM one of those people.

I bought some Awesome Cleaner the other day and intend to test it and compare. I will probably stick to the Black Magic Rejuvenator as I have no problems with its performance or using it, but do want to see for myself first hand, how the Awesome Cleaner performs.
