Particle balls.....still a place....
« on: December 14, 2008, 02:55:05 PM »
Just watched today's shot on the PBA tour(shark)....and the other day....I went and watched a supposedly short tournament pattern that had similar hangspots to the shot I watched on TV today.

While watching both of them....I kept thinking of particles I have maybe working on these shots.  Especially if one could soften up like Wes did and keep the revs up....

Your thoughts???

My thoughts? I think I could have hit the 7 pin square in the face with just about anything that night.

Second that. In league and tournament I have come to love my NS2 when the lanes are fresh - never had a ball before that made finding a way through oily lanes so easy. Particle rules!

I think it will be a bit as with urethane: outrun by different technology (porous reactive), but still a valid option if applied appropriately.

Sometimes....I still think they are better ....

Seem to dig in and bite in these soupy midlanes better versus the porous reactives....

Luck for me I did not have to throw on the slop but it just seemed...

I was able to get more movement out of a 500 grit track freak than I could with my attitude shift on shark. The problem with reactives is that they still rely on some dry boards on the lane.

Yes, I also love the way a particle ball moves throughout the lane. Not a super hook, but it just builds up that early traction you need when things are slick, so you need less dry area to hope for traction and a good end roll. I also found that particle balls with relatively milder reactive coverstock base than pure strong reactives have a wider range of use - the particles just smooth out the overall reaction (even though it can make one a bit more tricky to read correctly).

Lane Masters Dynamic Power Particle is an awesome piece! This ball actually gets down the lane, but conquerors the oil with a powerful finish! If you bowl on oil and want hook, look for a Dynamic Power! I also drilled a 14lb for a lady that bowls on our Seniors league and can't hook a ball, I was a believer when she missed real bad to the right and when it made it back to strike from the gutter I just about fell over! She came back to me with the biggest smile ever and said how did it do that? She's a 150+ average bowler and shot 578 scratch the first night in league! She has since come into the shop and wants more Lane Masters balls! If you don't bowl on oil, it may not be the ball for you. I love particle, but a lot of particle ball tend to die early, but Lane Masters/Legends seem to last forever! Just my $.02, Bruce
