How much does the drilling matter
« on: March 29, 2006, 11:30:08 PM »
I'm not that technical when it comes to bowling, so take it easy.  I have been told that your hand and the cover of the ball adds up to 90% of how a ball reacts.  What makes up the other 10%?  Here is what I've been told:
Hand and cover - 90%
Layout of drilling and shape of core - 10%

any other opinions?

Thanks for the thoughts.  I'm not saying that the drilling is only 10%, I just threw that out as a number.  I was just wondering if I drilled a ball, and it isn't working like I thought it would, if I would be better off changing the layout, or changing the surface, or just get rid of ball.  I only have about $30 in the ball, so if I had to get rid of it I would be out the same amount as if I had to redrill it.

I can throw in some numbers from my local pro shop guy:
- 70% coverstock & surface prep
- 15% core design
- 10% drilling layout
- 4% differential
- 1% static weights

I'd subsrcibe to this from personal experience.
