How many uses on average do you get on these before having to replace them?

i feel that we get 10 to 15 balls easy out of them.
more than when we use a scuff pad.

don't you worry that a 1000 grit abralon becomes a 2000 grit or finer pad after all those uses? After all it's still only silcon carbide, the same abrasive that's on wet/dry sandpaper. It does wear down in time.

charlest, that's well put,  a 1000 pad as it get older sort of becomes a high grit.  the only problem is,  that after so much use,  it's very hard to read the numbers on the pad.  so one could have a problem knowing what he is using.

I do something similar with a magic marker, but instead of date, I make a mark each time I use the pad. For example, 11 = 2......111 = 3......1111 = 4.....etc.

thanks again,  we use the pads all day long here in the shop.
and most of the time, i simply forget to mark down how many times i've used it.

so i try to go by feel,  and when i feel that the cover is not just right,  it's time to change the pad,  and of course re do the ball your working on.

my guess is that i get about 10-15 jobs out of a pad.
