Title: 5 ball arsenal
Post by: Azaelv on July 09, 2015, 12:56:56 AM
Hi guys, putting together a 5 ball arsenal, I was throwing 14 pounds but now I´m changing to 15 pounds, so far this is what I have in mind

Heavy:
Hyper Cell Skid
Haywire (I know its not out yet but with the cover seems like it would work for heavy oil)

Medium:
Rocket (already bought it)
Revolt Vengeance

Light:
Tag

Any thoughts? Storm/Roto/Motiv is what I'm looking for but I'm open to suggestions

Rev rate ~ 300
Ball speed 16-17 mph
Rotation ~ 35

Best regards

I throw a Revolt Vengeance and see a lot of the Hype Cell Skid  being used. Those two are going to be pretty close to each other. Skid will probably have a bit more down lane movement but not a lot.

So for medium maybe hysteria, optimus solid or forza?

Yeah I really like my Hysteria in that area. Very controllable and predictable. An underrated piece in my opinion.

The new red line may be worth considering to in that spot

Is this all for house shots or for house and sport?

Despite having the Hyper Cell cover, I am not sure the Haywire will fit the bill of being an oiler - the core is not strong enough. I also think you are playing down the strength of the Revolt Vengence - the core in that ball is stronger than in the Haywire. There might be too much overlap there.  Why not get a Hyper Cell Solid?  Too strong?

Also, there might not be enough separation between the Tag and the Rocket.  How is your Rocket drilled?  If you go with the Tag, I would drill it with a different layout than the Rocket to get enough separation in ball motion.

Tag and Shock are two MUST haves from Motiv IMHO.....the Vengeance is also excellent, I like mine at 4000......I agree the Rocket and Tag are close and so are Vengeance and Skid....

The Hyper Cell solid is a great ball, I sold mine because it was so strong I barely used it ever, but when i did it was money. The Vengeance is pretty strong, do not underestimate it, especially with some surface. I do believe that every bowler should have a Shock. Might be the best ive ever thrown. I use it at 3000....I have 3 tags!!  One with surface, one polished and one NIB. The two drilled are THS killers!

I was one of those people who really didnt like the shock, just not very consistent for me. That being said the only thing I would change about the arsenal is to make make an ascent pearl as the light oil ball instead of the tag

I would not recommend the Skid for heavy oil, for that depending on just how heavy,in the Roto Grip HP4 line  I would look at  either the Hyper Cell solid or the new Menace. The skid is an awesome ball, but not for heavy oil, due to the pearl cover, it will "skid" too far before the break point. That's what the H/C solid is for - BUT, if there is not enough head oil - it will burn up. The Menace is supposed to fit under the H/C solid to use when that ball is just too strong to use. I am also looking at the Haywire to compliment my H/C solid. So after they come out and I can actually see what they both do,then I will make my decision of which one of these to get, but I am leaning towards the Haywire. I don't know about the Tag for light. I use the Uproar.

Cant remember the layout but the motion is control, starts reading the midlane and a nice pop in the back end but not a big one, was drilled for control, not such and agressive ball.

I own a crux currently in my 14 pound arsenal and sometime tends to read very early, lay out is strong and pretty much the motion of my rocket but with big hook, so I really dont know if the hyper cell will get much use.

Also own a tag in my 14 pound arsenal and well I love that one, left it oob finish and that one the pin is in ring finger cg in my palm and the motion is waaaay different than my rocket so its a nice compliment to ball down, thats why im considering a new one in the 15 arsenal

I didnt consider the menace due to the core, it was very inconsistent for me.

So maybe the arsenal would be like this based on the opinions given.

Heavy:
HC skid
HC solid? Or revolt vengeance?

Medium heavy:
Haywire

Medium;
rocket
hysteria or forza?

Light:
Tag (surface adjustments can make it to light medium)

And yes this is considered for ths and sport shots

Best regards
