600 the hard way

Well, the lane man has once again decided that he should tinker with the pattern.  Here we are 8 weeks into the league and the shot has yet to be the same from one week to the next.  No problem...good bowlers can adjust, correct?

Well, last night was pretty much the same deal: over-under, spotty oil, the ball pushing out at or near the breakpoint.  Generally, just not a good environment for stringing strikes.  Now, I haven't shot par or above in about 4 weeks, which hurts my 213 book average ego.  So last night I resolved to shoot 600 or better no matter what.

The first game was pretty typical.  Lots of swishing hits that failed to carry, solid hits that left the back row, etc.  Without a double I shoot 189.  The next game was ridiculous.  Really bad reaction on the slop.  Light hits, splits, you name it.  I made the makeable spares and took count on the monster splits - 157.  So I do a little quick math: 189+157=346 from 600 is 254.  Right.  254.  My league high game until then was a measley 232.  But I said, "You've done it before.  Do it again."

Game 3: new line.  Front 5; light hit in the 6th - 3-6-7 split go 9 out; light hit in the 7th, break up the 3-7-9 and face only the 3. Spare out, sheet: 255.

189-157-255=601.  The HARD way.

Great persistence - and it finally paid off.

And Bones - I noticed the same thing in my scores from last year. At the end of the year we received a synopsis of our scores for the whole year. Average for the first game - around 212. Average for the third game - around 211. Average for the second game - 197. Over the whole year. Ouch. Made me start paying more attention to transition - and I'm getting through it better now.
