899 Series rolled at Plano Super Bowl tonight
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:07:47 PM »
I wanted to say congrats to Bill Fong who shot 300-300-299 tonight in the Monday Mixers 6PM league at Plano Super Bowl in Plano Texas. He left a ringing 10 pin on the last ball.

I wasn''''''''t there tonight to bowl as I am working but Gary (gsback) who posts on here alot texted me after Bill threw his last ball.

Once again Congrats Bill!!

It's a great accomplishment bowl during an era when great accomplishments happen more often. I congratulate the man! It's damn hard to carry 60% of the time for the normal league guy, let alone 35 out of 36 like this man did. Even though I hate the state of bowling today, don't fault the bowler. He was bowling on what was put out for everyone that night and using equipment anyone can buy. Technology sucks, but don't fault the bowler!!

CONGRATS on the 899!

just another piece of bowling credibility down the toilet.i agree its a great score and it does take skill to stuff 36 straight shots, but come on every couple of months some one comes close to or shoots 900.i personally dont think individual skill level is higher. this is just another reason to toughen conditions or limit ball technology.i remember when just shooting 700 was an acomplishment, but i guess those days are long gone.

Take your sour grapes somewhere else d**k.

Great bowling...

35 out of 36 is a feat no matter what condition your bowling on.  To not leave a 8, 9, smash 7 or a 10 pin is the feat.  I don''t care how easy the lane conditions are, or how easy the carry is. The physics involved to achieve this is astounding.  The physics are not on your side to achieve this at all.

Edited on 1/18/2010 11:19 PM

your rite ,physics is not on your side but luck is.plus you gotta ask yourself could those same 35 out of 36 shots hit the pocket without easy shots and advanced equiptment.i unlike most of the posters on this site realize my 800 and multiple 300's are the product of cake shots and highly advanced equiptment.  i will admit that if i bowled on conditions 20 years ago with their technology i would average 170-180 why wont the rest of you?

Because maybe they are a ton of people out there that already averaged in the 220s long before "advanced equipment".  I grew up in a youth league where 10 kids in my division were averaging over 200 and the balls being used back then?  Grizz, Nitro, Blue Hammer, Sumo, just to name a few.  Reactives were not even out yet.  It just sucks when someone shoots a number and instead of just saying "nice bowling", someone always has to come on here and try to discredit what they did.  If shooting the big one is now sooo easy as you seem to imply, how come you havent shot one yet?  BTW......NICE SHOOTING BILL!!!

Absolutely great shooting.  I don't care what ball or how many times you bowled that same pair or what the conditions are, etc., etc...  That was a great accomplishment, congrats.

Robby would have "seen" the 10 pin before it happened, and not left it on the final shot.  Guess that's why he has, what, 100 perfect sets now? Maybe he could give some lessons on 10 pin prevention in the face of a 900 series?

OK, that's all the a-hole I'm going to be about this.  Great set!

Great Shooting !!  Wall or no wall doesn't matter, The ability to repeat shots and make the little adjustments needed to continue carrying are what really make this an awesome accomplishment. Todays equipment and lane conditions come into play with the number of 300's on today's lane conditions Even in todays environment it is still an accomplishment to shoot 800 let alone 899. Once again congratulations on an awesome set!!

Congrats to Bill. On a side note I heard he didn't like his reaction at the end of game 2 and switch balls starting game 3. Takes some guts to drop the first 24 and change balls.

What number does it have to be considered a good series on this site?

So what is it now? Is it 800, 820, 850, 875, or 900 series? Or is it something like 280 average, or 1800 series across six games?

A few years back we used to congratulate anyone that shot high 700's and above. We used to congratulate anyone crossing into their first 200 game, 600 series, 700 series, or 200 average year.

I still see some posts happening but I am sure most bowlers are afraid to state anything on here in terms of accomplishments. And this site is pretty much how the rest of the bowling community acts.

If a person wears a 300 Jacket, or any of their patches, they get laughed at by the higher end bowlers. It's all a big joke.

You can blame THS and High End Equipment but a lot of blame can to these type of people. It doesn't help bowling when you talk down someone's accomplishment.

I can tell you this from bowling with Bill on my team and against Bill like I do now on Monday nights. The guy can remember specific lane conditions like no one I have ever encountered. He knows every single pair in that house and how they break down, etc. He is amazing when it comes to that. I can hardly remember where I played the last game and he remembers stuff from last year!!

He also did indeed switch balls the last game. Wow is all I can say..

Once again, great series Bill. I just wish I was there to see it..

Great shooting Bill! I've been bowling since the mid to late 60's and technology has changed, but I still see a lot of people leaving single pins on relatively awesome shots! I left corner pins in the 70's and I'm leaving corner pins 30+ years later! I give Bill credit for 35 of 36 strikes and it's an awesome feat no matter what year! Bruce

Great points, Trash Heap.  Speaks volumes to the character of people who have to pooh pooh, the accomplishments of others.

If I ever have a series even remotely like Bill's, I will wear it proud.  And not let anybody take anything away from it.  Just smile at the nay sayers who are really actually just flat out jealous.
