899 Series rolled at Plano Super Bowl tonight
« on: January 18, 2010, 12:07:47 PM »
I wanted to say congrats to Bill Fong who shot 300-300-299 tonight in the Monday Mixers 6PM league at Plano Super Bowl in Plano Texas. He left a ringing 10 pin on the last ball.

I wasn''''''''t there tonight to bowl as I am working but Gary (gsback) who posts on here alot texted me after Bill threw his last ball.

Once again Congrats Bill!!

I do not think he was saying the shots, and overall bowling is tougher.  More the angles and carry can be very difficult.  Back in the day, there was more one angle of entry to the pocket, where today, due to the technology, there is multiple angles and this is where knowledge comes in to play.  I can see somoen knocking a 700 series due to the shot and technology, but an 899?  C'mon, that requires a lot of talent to repeat the shots.  Whether it is speed, revolutions, angle or spot down the lane, he had to repeat shots 36 straight times.

And don't forget it takes the knowledge and guts to make an adjustment when you haven't missed all night.

In one of my 800's I shot 279 the first game and switched equipment. Everybody was looking at me like I was nuts. But I understood what it took to score on that pattern and the ball I was using tended to fade as the spot burned to the right.

I couldn't imagine being in his shoes and have to sit there and consider adjustments after the front 24, 25, etc.

you kinda made my point, bowling is now reduced to a contest of luck and carry.we have all seen it.how many guy do you see that would not average north of 180 if not for a virtual gravity and a wide open shot.im not saying 35 out of 36 is not an amazinfg feat,im just saying its a feat made easier by the games easy conditions and equiptment.

One point in the post you were referring to that's been overlooked though.....

I've been bowling since the mid to late 60's and technology has changed, but I still see a lot of people leaving single pins on relatively awesome shots! I left corner pins in the 70's and I'm leaving corner pins 30+ years later!

Getting to the pocket, for those that know how to do it, is no different in any era.....sorry.  If we saw people that were 170, 180, 190 average bowlers throwing 300s upon 300s, then fine....but we don't.

There may be more 300s thrown, but I bet the majority of them are from people that have been throwing them.

^^^^ if your 300, SHOULD have been a 180, then you must suck at spares. Last I checked you can average 199 without even striking.

Just a suggestion, you might want to try using spell check...its not sight, its site..

Also, if you shot "another" 300 honor score a couple of days ago as you stated, could you please post some proof of that accomplishment..

Your comments are way out of line in this post, sorry.. If you wanted to make comments about how easy bowling is, this was not the place for it. Start your won da*m post and stay out of this one about a guy having a once in a lifetime night..

sorry i embellished, but you probably dont know what that means. i joined this sight to learn things and the only thing ive learned is that a good number of people on this sight think they are that good, when in reality they are products of the watered down challenge bowling poses today.

Robert Mushtare said he'd show anyone what a 900 series looks like.  Just meet him at his center at 9pm on Saturday nights.

Nah, you're just the type of a-hole that gets a hole in one and says it was the club. Or the jerk who catches a trophy fish and says it was the rangefinder. You're phony humility makes you insufferable. You can't enjoy the moment or the accomplishment. Yeah, your profile is a figjam but you're too stupid to realize it. So far all you've done in this post is show everybody your azz. It ain't pretty. Stop bowling if you think it's too easy. Most of us on here realize what modern balls can do. You still have to hit the pocket and carry 35 straight shots to do what he did. Said it before, I'll say it again.....beat it, fraud.

+1

i dont care if the shot is set up for you or if the shot is all walled up.  you still have to throw the ball 36 times, he carried 35 of them, he adjusted to the conditions (switching balls) so obviously he did not just camp out on where he was playing.  he made moves and they all worked for him.  why not show some class and just say congrats on a great feat.

I agree with a few others that we are talking about two different subjects.  I don't know Bill Fong but for him to shoot 899 took a little luck and a heck of a lot of skill. I am sure he was making adjustments before he needed to as most bowlers wait till the shot goes away and then struggles to find it.   Was the shot walled up?  I am sure it was but I would bet that this gentlemen could beat 95% of all bowlers not matter what lane condition he was on, the only difference would be the score.  Bowling centers a fighting to keep this game alive by making all of us feel like great bowlers by putting out a wall so we can enjoy ourself. Do you think we would enjoy our night out bowling if we faced tough conditions every week???? The guy that runs the oiler can shut most of the league down in a heart beat by changing the program in the oiler. Why aren't the Weber's, Dukes, Williams and such shooting one 300 after another with their skill level, could it be the lane conditions. How many league bowlers go to Nationals (ABC)and average what they do during their league.  I bowl with 7 guys who have Eagles on their mantle, one has bowled on Team USA a number of times and the tougher the condition the worst the beating is for those who bowl against them.  Bill Fong had a great night and something he can cherish for a lifetime, again was it luck, maybe a "little", was it skill, you bet it was.  Good Bowling Mr. Fong.  Hope the next time you get that dreaded 10 pin as it is great for bowling.

He didn't make your point, he made the opposite point, that he has had his share of carry issues over many decades...

Why was it even necessary for you to post at all?

your rite ,physics is not on your side but luck is.plus you gotta ask yourself could those same 35 out of 36 shots hit the pocket without easy shots and advanced equiptment.i unlike most of the posters on this site realize my 800 and multiple 300's are the product of cake shots and highly advanced equiptment.  i will admit that if i bowled on conditions 20 years ago with their technology i would average 170-180 why wont the rest of you?

I bowled over 30 years ago - a little tougher conditions - with plastic and rubber.  Shot an 800 with a White Dot.  Averaged 195 in Travel League.

To me, today's shot isn't that much better and my old LT-48 hit like a Mack truck.

The guys bowling 800's today have tremendous games physical games have evolved to the changing conditions and equipment and with better coaching.

Perhaps it is you that needs to admit it.

Congrats to Bill. On a side note I heard he didn't like his reaction at the end of game 2 and switch balls starting game 3. Takes some guts to drop the first 24 and change balls.

ROTO GRIP - King of Them All

This above confers my initial reactions...yes the equiptment and conditions are easier today but to make 36 pocket shots that carry(all but 1) is hard feat mainly because HE HAD TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS..

Kudos to the guys for commenting agaist pumpkinA.  I got tired of seeing yet another post containg BUT this...BUT that.

In the end, most of us know the conditions may not be completely difficult.  But bowling in the same league and knowing the bowlers on each team, I can tell you that he had to make adjustments.  The league isn't filled with high average bowlers only.....there's a mix and his team and the team he was bowling is mixed in terms of bowling ability.  Some have some and some just come to relax and enjoy.

BUT (there's your word) instead you want to come in and take a leak on his parade.  If you want to complain about how easy the shot is, then create a new thread.  I am sure you will get plenty of comments.
