It is believed that bowlers today want easy conditions, to shoe up for 3 games shoot their 650 series and go home without having to practice. Some bowlers bemoan the easy conditions and leave the "THS leagues" to join a PBA or Sport league, if they don't get fed up and quit altogether. Others think there is nothing wrong with the THS shot and anyone who wants a tougher shot should join the PBA and go on tour.
I thought about this after reading another post today. Is it possible that the decline in leagues is due in part to the easier conditions and less need to practice? When I was growing up, those aspiring to improve their game as well as those trying to stay on top of their game would bowl multiple leagues to help them get more frames in and stay sharp. These same people would also stay late and open bowl for practice, and maybe hit the jackpot nights as well. With the easier conditions and stronger equipment, have many of today's bowlers dropped to one league upon discovering that they do not need to bowl the extra games to maintain their average?
