My brother in law told me a 17 year old kid in Fort Drum New York shot a sanctioned 900 series this weekend. Any one else hear anything about this? I haven't seen any confirmation yet!

This is true...a 17 year old right hander from Carthage NY posted 900 during the Jr/Sr league Saturday Morning at Pine Plains Bowling Center in Ft Drum NY. His name is Robert Mushtare and he was using a 16 lb Storm Paradigm. We confirmed it from the bowling center and received the awards application from USBC this afternoon.

Congrats!!! But If you really have the skill go to Jr gold. Try out for the junior olypmic team instead of staying on those walled shots.

Osku pushes my point to it being ridiculous. The fact that someone carries 36 shots in a row is not an accomplishment that it should be. I read the original post and instead of my heart skipping a beat because "Wow thats great", its wow what kind of wall does he bowl on. From this point on his bowling life will be nothing compared to that 1 day.
The sport of bowling is what it is. High scores are diluted to the point that a 300 gets almost zero recognition in certain places.
900, congrats. Its all downhill from there.

I don't know why they don't just lengthen the lanes 5 feet?
Same concept as in golf. Courses 64 to 6500 yards in 1945.
Today 7200 yards is the norm! Simple!
And leave nice patterns!

Great Statement, I agree its sad it happened to someone this young, nothing will top that accomplishment, well unless he wins the the US Open or something of that high, extremely high magnitude.
-
If you roll a 300 it is still an accomplishment though more are being done. If you roll two 300s in a row it is even more of an accomplishment but 3 in a row????? I don't care what kind of wall anyone says the kid was bowling the fact is 10 pins fell on the first ball for 36 straight frames. The kid deserves credit AND respect for that accomplishment and I refuse to believe that this will be the pinnacle of his career. Even with a 900 your game can still be elevated, can still be taken to the next level.....

That is incredible, even tho people are saying, the game is easy and etc, trying to dilute what he has done, at the age of 17 you do not always have the mental calmness and focus that someone else might. at 17 he is on top of the world i am sure.
Congrats to this feat. I hold my can of Vegetable juice to you.

I find this post absolutely astonishing. Here we have a bowler (a young man in this case) who has just reached the pinnacle in what most of us on this site consider our sport, and he is getting racked for it. I really don't care who this p!sses off, but for those of you who don't have the courtesy and integrity to congratulate this young man, shame on you. You people are what is wrong with this sport. A person cannot go out and give a great performance without ya'll coming on here and putting them down. If you don't like the state of bowling and you don't want to commend someone on a great feat, then why don't you freaking quit and give the rest of us who are actually proud of our accomplishments a break.
Congratulations young man, no matter else you may do, no one can take this great accomplishment away from you.

My favorite is he cannot top this feat in his life.
Well lots of superstars shot their best score before they went on to pro success.
I think Tiger Woods shot a 57 on his tough home course before he won his first masters!
That's the way life is.
Most football running backs have all their accomplishments before age 30!
They can either go forward with life or spend the rest of the time reminiscing!
Outstanding. Note 2nd highest score for this kid! he must have a nuclear hand!

His accomplishment is fine. My point is that the feat is even attainable. It shouldnt be. Its a joke. Anybody who claims that all their scores are valid are a joke too. I know my scores are a joke. Anyone shooting 900 is just stupid---not just this "kid".
I find it hilarious that people on this site attack people who obviously wish there was more integrity in the sport. Yea do away with integrity---great scoring kid. Congrats.

This reply is unbelieveable...
I agree that your scores ARE a joke because you bowl like a P-U-S-S-Y... NO THUMB IS FOR DOUCHBAGS WHO CAN'T BOWL!!! (I'm really not that narrow in my views, but bowling without the thumb is the only "joke" I see in this post...)
Now that I have that out of my system, let me say that only the most ignorant, jealous, blinded fool would have the audasity and arrogance to bash on something this amazing. Why can't you just accept the fact that the kid pulled it off?? HE DID IT!!! He did what we are all trying to do, what we sometimes DREAM of doing. He attainted PERFECTION at 17, when some of us will bowl and bowl and bowl until we are 82 years old and our arms fall off and our balls sag to our toes... And only someone like you, who believes the glass is always half-empty, would have enough inverted depression and skewed, jaded views of the world and everything in it to post something so negative.
"Anyone shooting 900 is just stupid"... ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? First of all, what a CHILDISH comment... I can barely even signify it with a remark. Believe it or not, perfection IS attainable for some people... It is rare in almost every case, but it is still attainable nonetheless for a select few. Accept it. CHERISH it.
"I find it hilarious that people on this site attack people who obviously wish there was more integrity in the sport." OH MY GOD... I don't even know what to say to this comment... If you believe you are someone who makes it "obvious" that you strive for more "integrity" in the sport of bowling, then you truely do have a very skewed view of not only the world, but of yourself. To prove my point, I will simply quote this statement again: "Anyone shooting 900 is just stupid." Where's the integrity in that?
I am appauled at this comment, PERIOD. I don't often take part in this sort of rant, but I just couldn't help it... NOTHUMB, go plug yourself.

How can you say that this feat is not admirable? I know that when you all were 17, you didn't shoot 900, he did. Whether it's on a house shot or not, he shot 900, you didn't. Also, someone said that it's the people that are known that shoot 900s, if I'm not mistaken, this is the 7th in history...not a lot of 'knowns' have done this. In fact, I am a member of the West Texas A&M bowling team in Canyon, TX and our coach, Jeff Campbell, has shot a 900, sanctioned. How many have you have heard of him? If you ever shoot 900, then post it, see how many people rag on you because you're good.
-
Sorry, he's the 8th in history...

No thumb bowlers aren't bowlers eh...whos Jim Pratt...oh yea, the guy last year who made a TV show using a platic ball and no thumb...they have potential.
-
He also had 5 other 800s sanctioned, and now a 900 to his credit.

But the fact still remains that he did it, 900, 3 300 games, and it just so happens he is 17. If he was 27, it still would be just as credible. Nothing should be taken away from him, unless you're one of the other 7 in history who have ever accomplished this feat...
-
It is awesome and the fact that he already has five other 800s to his credit shows he is a real talent!

We'll save the NOTHUMB argument for another time...
Great set, as I said. Just prove you can do it in a setting that isnt a strike fest. Im not saying he should go to the toughest shot around and shoot 900. I am saying that he should go bowl on very challenging conditions and be at least competitive---and not embarrass himself. Some people do this. There is no denying it. Some people go bowl on tougher conditions and make fools of themselves---sometimes that person is me. Fact is, though, I wont give the kid all that much credit until I see a longer track record. What are some of the other averages out of the house? Whats his average there vs. everywhere else he bowls? What else may have been shot that day in the league?
Everyone is quick to shoot me down for questioning the validity of the holy grail score in bowling. Im surprised more people arent questioning it. But hey thats cool.
Dont forget---NICE SET. I mean it. I am trying to say that horizons should now be broadened. If he becomes some homer who enjoys the numbers he shoots in that house or that area, then the 900 is just a footnote. If it is a stepping stone to bigger things, Ill be the first to pat him on the back.
The cool thing about being NOTHUMB, I could really care less what you have to say about me. You dont know me, just like I dont know this kid. I dont know how he bowls, Which is why Im asking questions. You know nothing about me, but based on your beliefs you shut me down. Otherwise, youll be getting in a flame war you cant win.

I love having my quote taken out of context by the way.
Perfection is what we strive for. Every night. I often say that we can only control what we can control. If he has the opportunity to strike 36 times in a set, that is fine. Again, CONGRATS. He went up and did the best he could or good enough, to shoot 900. My gripe is not with the 17 year old. My gripe is the fact that it is attainable. For anyone who thinks that shooting 900 should be attainable, that is why bowling is what it is. A sport overlooked by many. A sport that the major TV networks steer clear of. The question is asked all the time to the better bowlers---why dont you go pro? And the response is inevitably the same. You just dont understand.
In this case, we are on a bowling message board. I am entitled to my opinion, you are entitled to yours. First thing I said was Congrats. Then I made a statement referencing the fact (not that people who shoot 900 are stupid) that shooting 900 shouldnt be attainable. It just shouldnt be. People keep saying "you are jealous". I wouldnt want to shoot 900. Im not jealous of that. I wouldnt feel that I was deserving of shooting 900. Im not that good. I know that. But is he? Is he THAT good?
CONGRATS CONGRATS CONGRATS---now that thats out of the way, Im allowed to question things.

I went to the site....I did not see video run....too bad I would have liked to see it!
We've got a guy around here about three years older that is shooting big numbers where others can't nearly every night. Think Bill Oneil style also!
Love to watch these young great technique kids throw the ball!
If anyone has tips to get the video to run let me know.
I have Mozilla Firefox and I don't see a button to run video.

I see some people giving kudos to this kid, but also saying it is ridiculous that he could achieve perfection at 17. Just curious, how old was Nadia Comaneche (probably misspelled) when she scored the unthinkable perfect score of "10" in gymnastics. What does age have to do with anything.

CONGRATS to you kid!
I could never imagine the pressure.
Bob H. hit that nail on the head. Even a walled up shot will move on you, and you have to be able to follow the oil to keep it in the pocket. Even if it is the wall to end all walls that will funnel 36 balls to the pocket, you have to be able to CARRY them all. Not a single ringing 10 pin. Not a single stone 8 or 9 pin. I watched a guy leave six 9 pins last night. I was floored! I, myself, pounded the pocket all night only to eek out a 708. 900 is not even a goal of mine until I can throw a 300 (and an 800). It may never happen. All we can do is give congrats to those who can. I see this whole discussion as jealousy. It's like saying so-and-so just bought a Ferrari F50. Someone will always say "Oh, man, for that kind of money, you could have bought a *insert jackass's favorite supercar here* and it would blow the doors off that Ferrari". So what? It does not concern you because you don't have one! All of you who do not have a 900 should just back off. Go to a soft house. Go to Revo's house. I don't care...I bowl there! I do not have a 300, 800, or 900. If you shoot a 900 and say it was nothing, then you have my permission to bash this kid or anyone else who has done it. And even then, I will congratulate you because it is something to be proud of...and I was raised a gentleman.

People always say bowling needs to be made more difficult but anytime you have a sport that has a so called "perfect game" you'll always have someone being able to attain it. And where bowling is different from the rest is that there are soooo many variables that don't change. The only thing that can be modified is the oil pattern and obviously that makes a difference but again it's only one aspect of bowling that is even possible to change. Like someone said you can't make the lanes different lengths you can put hazards in the middle of the lanes there isn't someone defending the rack. Bowling is what it is... a simple game, not always easy but simple.

HAHA Post all the 900s, im sure there's no one out there just stringing 900 series all day...besides, he was sanctioned too sir...
-
Regarding what Bob Hanson said.
Throwbot can throw every ball perfectly can usually only get a 6 bagger before it misses the pocket flush. The cause is change in the pattern...exagerated by the perfection of it's throws taking up oil in the same spot every throw.
REgards,
Luckylefty
PS which shows how incredible the human body is. I've always believed that the truly great...ie Jack Nicklaus...Arnold Palmer actually played better under pressure than they did in normal times. An actually unrealistic belief.
PSS as a person who in golf was able to do something somewhat similar I know the mind starts to believe iron shots inside 3 feet is the norm and why would you expect anything else. Then your body in those rare moments can outperform throwbot and iron byron by making the adjustments to outside stimuli that they can't! If you ask this guy he'll tell you he could see the ball in to the pocket every throw as the night went on!
