rules help...missing pin
« on: November 18, 2005, 03:25:04 AM »
A bowler throws his ball, leaves a split.....his team mate comes over before he throws the second ball to say their was a missing pin and he should get a re-rack and start over.  what does the rule book say abaout this.  no one else saw or noticed........we did let him re-throw, just to keep peace and not create a scene, the team mate was gettign quite angry and loud.  let me know

He should get to reshoot..however, it should have been seen by more than one person and also should have been said before he threw the shot or at the latest while the ball was on the lane....sort of too late after the fact in my opinion whether there was a pin missing or not.

I can't quote it exactly, but if a pin is missing and anyone brings it to attention you re-rack with a full set and start over.  It can be brought to your attention by anyone, even those not on that pair.

There's a guy here who got so mad about 15 years ago when this exact same thing happened with me that he left in mid-game and has never again set foot in the bowling alley.  PS, I struck on the re-rack instead of a 7-10.

My scratch league had almost this exact situation this week.

I noticed a bowler on the next pair throwing at a rack missing an 8 pin. He threw it thru the nose and left a 4-6-10 split. I went over and told them he was missing the pin, no one argued, and he re-threw the shot and struck.

But I have also seen it called the other way where they struck, had to re-throw and then split.

I don’t know if I have ever seen a situation where whether the pin was missing or not being questioned for any time at all. They almost always give the re-throw nod.
