I have been considering whether or not to sell off the bulk of my balling ball inventory. Some I will have trouble letting go of, such as the clear spare balls(I bid on a clear Hammer Gas Mask core just this week, but didn't win). And some of the Motiv stuff I will keep and eventually drill, but most of them I will never drill.
A lot of them I got for a really good price with fortunate timing, and a lot of them are also pretty much worthless.
For you guys who have a significant inventory, have you considered selling? By "significant" I mean more than 50 undrilled NIB balls, not the cute little collection of 10 or 20 already drill worthless items. No offense intended. ;D

Honestly for the balls, only bowlers would care about and not general public I would probably look to dump them soon if want to maximize return. Have a feeling a whole lot of 15 and 16lb are about to flood the market with the motion hole stuff going into affect not to mention Boomers getting too old to throw those weights and starting to drop down and retire entirely.

Once I got out of the business for me it was an entertaining and sometimes comical way (the whole ebay game) to kill some winter non golf time. And I found the market was pretty strange. I got more for used shoes than I did for some blank high end balls.

The motion hole rule won't affect NIB balls or if it does, it will probably make them sell better. I know some people who do not want a plugged ball.
This isn't about maximizing return anyway. It's more about retiring in a few years and what a pain in the ass it would be to move all these bowling balls from California to Alabama.

I have 11, and some of them are getting holes in them at some point. I could see putting holes in the Freight Train, Green Mamba, maybe the Break Point Solid. Some I just haven't found a market for (You know how hard it is to find someone else that wants a first gen Jewel??) And some I'm keeping just because.

I might have to save a few of the less desirable ones for when I get back to Alabama. I can imagine the damage I could do to a mailbox with a bowling ball attached to a chain from the back of a pick-up truck. ;D

Was just more saying for example if see only one ball X NIB on ebay maybe someone pays the premium but if they see 5 other ball X single drills for a quarter of the price or less they think you know what single drill isn't so bad. As for the motion holes more just that people might be more likely to sell single drilled with a motion hole if on fence instead of plug it. Keep a watch on Visionary stuff so if want to dump that first might have a buyer. But yeah moving balls sucks. Kind of a pain to even move them between work (store a few there) and home.

The only visionary ball I have you don't want, it will be a good candidate for the mailbox duty.

I understand. Social Media isn't everyone's style. I think the strongest point to facebook groups is the organic reach to people who don't visit forums like this. Some of my biggest sells on Facebook have been to Pros/Staffers on NIB equipment that they no longer had access to or wanted for sentimental reasons.
I worked out a 1-for-2 trade with a staffer for my NIB Columbia Rival for a NIB Lit Pearl and Columbia Eruption Pro earlier this summer. $200 for a NIB Track 811A to a Track staffer, and $200 for a new OG Burgandy Hammer to a Touring Pro.
If you have any rare ones that you want to drum up interest for it could be worth a shot, especially if you have someone close to you that's a bowler and does use Facebook.

I'm a tech person by trade, so I'm painfully aware of the issues and benefits with Facebook and similar social media platforms.
Sure there are good uses for it but nothing good will come from these companies doing a constant anal probe on you every time you log into your computer.

Especially since FB has shown themselves to be an especially ethically challenged company (for example they buy data on you in addition to what you give them and have shadow profiles on virtually everyone on earth that they match up to photos you are in even if you have never used FB). Best to think of them as a private detective hired by an ex wife at worse to an advertising company at best than anything social.
(edit: they have also pulled some shennigans where there is a good chance they at some time or another have your location data via your phone 24/7 for perhaps years at a time.)

I love how these arrogant a-holes try to explain their shortcomings.

There is virtually ZERO market for "collector" bowling balls. The term "collector" bowling balls makes me chuckle. I can't think of a worse "investment". I see guys on eBay trying to pawn off their undrilled "gems" for $300 and up ....... GOOD LUCK !!

I don't really see a collection of bowling balls as an investment. Although, some people probably do. I started buying balls as a way to learn about the differences, so I would buy them cheap with the plan to drill and see what the differences were. Then I bought a few that were "extras" of balls I really liked.
Some I bought because I knew I would be able to turn them around and make a few dollars. This was the case with the Storm Invasion and Anarchy. I bought 11 Invasions when it was discontinued for $75 each. Within a year I sold them all for $200+. The same with the Anarchy, but I only had 6 of those. But it's rare to come across that kind of opportunity.
I have picked up several clear balls over the years, just because I liked how they looked. Kinda like your grandama with those collector plates, spoons, thimbles or whatever else people collect.
For some reason, I grabbed every one of the Vibes prior to the new generation. I have the Bowlers Mart ones, overseas and special edition Vibes. The only one I'm aware of that I don't have is the Peach, which I still kick myself for not buying when it was available at the USBC Open Championships in Reno several years ago, but I didn't want to spend $200 for a freaking Vibe.
I have quite a few, but don't really consider it an investment. Kinda like my "collection" of Whiskey(mostly Bourbon and Rye). I intend to get good use out of them or liver damage, which ever comes first. :o ;D

Fair number of non bowlers are actually collectors as some dude was showing off how he decorated his man cave with virtually every 80s and 90s popular urethane NIB on ebay. People will collect anything. Tend to agree on investment part and I buy to use only (and usually not NIB) but market for gems is not zero.
