Could a cracked or separated core cause a ball not to hook? can a core shift?
-
I had one separate a long time ago. Didn't seem to affect the roll, but I replaced it anyway.

Whe the core seperates you can tell a difference in sound when the ball hits the pins. I'd imagine there are other effects as well that would suggest you need a newer ball.

Just to say I don't have a ball with a cracked or separated core.
I was reading a post a guy was using a Hell Raiser Revenge and he was complaining it wasn't hooking on a dry lane. But his Too reckless worked great and he couldn't understand why.
He said a couple of guys who use to have proshops said it was because the core was cracked or "Shifted" in the ball.
I've heard of and seen balls with cracked and separated cores, but never of one "shifted" in a ball or that it would make a ball not hook.
I told him it was burning up on the lane, the HRR needs some oil. The Too Reckless worked because it was for a lighter condition. But he said well it worked before.

Then early resin balls like the Excaliber usually had core separations quickly. Never seemed to effect the ball reaction for me.
