switch from 15lb to 14lb
« on: November 10, 2009, 03:18:12 AM »
Ladies & Gents,

Due to arthritis in the AC joint of my throwing shoulder, I may have to drop down to 14# in order to be able to continue the game I love.  It was very evident this weekend in the city tournament when I didn't have the speed or revs to keep up with the young bucks on the lane condition.  I'm sure this topic has been discussed previously, but my questions are this..

1. Is there a reduction in hitting power, carry with the switch?
2. Is there any ball company better at 14# equipment based on specs?
3. Is there a specific drilling when dropping down that may be better, or stay with whatever works?

My speed with 15# is currently in the 15mph range, revs 250-275 and I like to play the track area straighter.

Any input would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I went from 15 to 14 last season late due to a wrist problem. During the summer tried to go back to 15 and did for a while but the wrist problem came back.

Short answers to your questions.

1. No
2. No
3. No.

If you have a ball with core/cover combo that works for you better than any other, go with that ball. Only thing I have noticed for myself is I tend, at times, to throw a bit fast with the 14's. It's my problem, nothing the ball does or did it's just me. I'd only suggest you watch your speed. You may have a speed problem, might not but that's the only difference I found.

Good luck and hope your shoulder gets better. I'd also say you might want to keep a 15 or two just in case your shoulder gets back and you decide to go back to 15, cheaper that way.
