Hybrid Coverstocks
« on: October 27, 2008, 12:52:21 PM »
Ok, I know that you start with a solid coverstock, then you add Mica (right?) and that turns it into a pearl.  So when they make a hybrid, are they actually mixing a solid and a pearl, or do they just add half as much Mica?

From my understanding when reading about Storm's hybrid balls, they take the solid in one color and mix it with the pearl in another color, so you end up with a ball that's 60% pearl coverstock swirled together with 40% solid coverstock for example.  If anyone can please confirm or deny, that'd be great

I think at least Storm/Roto-Grip's production line can mix any percentage solid to pearl. Look at the Strike Cell which is supposed to be 2 parts solid to 1 part pearl (67% solid) :

and the Hybrid Cell, which is supposed to be 2 parts pearl to 1 part solid (67% pearl):

AND
the Master Illusion which seems to be, like the Hy-Road, 50%/50% solid/pearl:

FYI All are international balls made, as far as I know, on the Storm assembly/production line in Utah.

Right, the 60/40 was just for example purposes since I didn't feel like researching numbers.
