BJ Moore gets it.  Listen to what he says about pin-up vs. pin-down starting at 1:23:

No talk of pin-up going longer or pin-down getting into a roll quicker (although there is marketing talk of CONTINUATION).  I like that the old way of thinking is beginning to give way to a better understanding of ball motion.

I don't understand. Both of your statements above are TRUE! Whether he stated them that way or in a way that he understands them. A pin-down ball reads the lane earlier and smooths the backend, which still can be interpreted as getting into a roll quicker. To me, it's all the same.

Now the part about his pin-up reading the lane quicker..........hmmmm, that makes me think there was a surface tweak done with this ball vs. the original Dare Devil.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

This is a false statement.  A pin-down ball does not read the lane earlier.  This is an outdated falsehood.

Off topic, but..

I really hate all of the newer Storm/Roto videos.  Half of the 2 minutes is a close up of the bowler in really slow motion and half of the remaining video is at such a distance that you really can't see the ball's reaction very well.

BJ said that the pin up reads quicker and the pin down is smoother based upon his findings. Who are we to say that this is not true for him?

This is true. Pin up will transition faster, which will give the look of reading faster.

That's how I interpreted his comments. The pin up being a bit quicker responding to friction makes sense.
