Ronnie Russell jumped ship to Storm. From what I told, there will be more defections from EBI.
-
Ronnie signed with Storm way before Brunswick acquired EBI.
-
Ronnie switched on November 1st
-
Makes me wonder if someone with inside info was in his ear. I was surprised when he jumped ship.
-
A true measure of why a pro stays on staff is how much money they make while on it. Ronnie made plenty of shows with Motiv. How many did he make with EBI?
-
Balls do not overcome ABILITY
-
Ebonite filed bankruptcy in march and was struggling filling orders on new releases and nobody knew there was an issue. Ronnie didn't know anything that others much more important then him knew. It was a huge blindside.
The industry is shrinking. Bowlers refuse to believe it

So not enough business to stay in the black, but enough to be behind in filling orders. Hmm.

# of league bowlers is shrinking in the US and I guess they buy majority of the balls. I thought there is some solid growth overseas though. Whatever pretty obvious EBI management wasn't um good . Its not like they didn't have balls people wanted.

The problem is the owners of EBI are a bigger entity than EBI. Owning Gap,Pac Sun, Victoria Secrets ect. Even those companies profits are down so something has to go that being EBI.
These people are not bowlers they don't have as much passion like we do. Amazon, walmart and other online big companies are changing the landscape of purchasing. Malls are loosing stores like crazy, especially in smaller areas.. The game is changing rapidly..

This, retail/brick & mortar are dying a rapid death, to be honest, I dont know how some pro shops keep the doors open.

Yep I don't either.

Trusting online retailers to drill my stuff <shudder>. Label drills all around.
Buddies does a great job.
I'll have a drill press in my house soon. Drilling party, anyone?

Strike while the iron is hot!

900 Global couldn't make a 3 color ball if it wasn't poured by storm/roto. At least they have the capability of making their logo 3 colors online.

We are lucky here. There are two bowling alleys in town and both have thriving pro shops.

Where did we find that EBI filed for bankruptcy?
-
They are listed in Aceto’s filing along with about 100 pages of other companies that were served by First Class Mail so that was somehow taken as Ebonite filing.
-
So not actually EBI filing for bankruptcy,
A little google and found that blue9 Capitol out of NY was the investment firm that owned Ebonite International.
Not sure who Aceto is

True company man right here, I’m surprised you’re not on suicide watch given what’s happened to your beloved EBI.

Used many products over the years, theirs rolls well for me and I have friends there.
If you can't get behind something you believe in and what works for you.
If you need to bash on me and others to make yourself feel good, then so be it

Wonder if they have clauses in the contract where they can bail if the company is sold? Be interesting to see if they can keep O'Neill and Butturff long term. Have to get the urethane right I guess.
-
Wonder how soon Big B bowlers can start throwing EBI...
-
I know some storm guys who would love to get their hands on Purple Hammers. Gotta think the same for Brunswick guys
-
I know some storm guys who would love to get their hands on Purple Hammers. Gotta think the same for Brunswick guys
Not Parker Bohn. I recently watched a short interview of him where he said he had no need for Urethane. He specifically said that Urethane was the domain for the real heavy handed guys, which wasn't his game. Just like most of us. Of course, except for some shorter pattern situations, he's absolutely correct.
Most bowlers will see more benefit from a specialized low differential Reactive like the Hammer Web Tour or the Brunswick Phantom. You get a good Urethane like reaction without needing a 400+ rev rate to make it happen.
-
I was thinking of all the Storm guys throwing Pitch Blacks. I am an old mostly over the hill stroker, but O dont go anywhere without urethane on my bad, and purple hammer is the best of the bunch.

Speaking of the Phantom, I was extremely skeptical, but darn if Lane Side didn't show it just about rolls like the OG Slate Blue Phantom. Pretty amazing really.

I have the Purple Hammer and the new Phantom. The track flare is almost identical. The difference is that the Phantom doesn’t puke in carrydown the way the Hammer and other Urethane balls do.
The Purple Hammer is probably the best current Urethane out there. But it’s still a Urethane, and at best is a niche special purpose ball for all except those who have a lot of hand. A low differential Reactive like the Phantom will almost always be a better choice when a Urethane like reaction is needed.

Absolutely true for 95% of bowlers especially on THS but top guys like Butturff and O'Neill unlike PB3 have being winning on the main tour very recently and with urethane. Jesper looks like coming out of slump as well (not EBI but still). For some of the top guys (back on topic) urethane lineup does matter. Probably be in Brunswick best interest to make sure new EBI urethane balls are just as good as the old for holding onto some of the top guys though granted $$$ still main thing I am sure. Brunswick needs to own it makes the best urethane now imo because that is part of the price they paid for. Not like R&D costs are that high (just paid for it) and already have proven winners at least for several more years minimum. We shall see I guess.

They weren't owned by Victoria Secret owner, but Blue 9 Capital an investment group! Tuttleman who on the board of both EBI and Blue 9 Capital!
-
Stefanie Johnson is the latest to leave EBI. She is now part of the Roto Grip staff.
-
It also appears that EBI guys can now throw Brunswick.
-

Stefanie will OWN IT now! Smart decision.
-
2nd on money list, not a bowler wanted to lose imo.
-

Saw a video from Kyle Sherman throwing the Melee Jab. Rumor is EBI staffers free to throw balls from any of the 7 brands at the moment and Brunswick staffers have to wait for the "New EBI" balls to throw everything

Anderson was throwing a Hero all day yesterday at a tournament.

Kyle threw Brunswick at Lindenwood so he’s more familiar with their stuff than most.
-
On Motiv's Facebook page today, they announced that Patrick Girard has returned to Motiv after being away the last few years. He signed a 2 year contract and is the latest to leave EBI after Brunswick purchased them.

Another huge change was announced today. Diana Zavjalova announced that she has left EBI and joined Storm.

Buddies does an awesome job. All the bowling balls you picked up from me were mostly drilled by them. Glad I can't bowl anymore. With you having a drill press, I'd be over at your house all of the time!
-
I second that Buddies is tops
-
Rumor has it that Storm is signing 2 huge male talents that will announce January 2020. One is a huge surprise.

A certain lefty who goes around the pattern?
-
Sounds like Storm is offering some players medical benefits to jump ship.
Don't know this for fact, but have heard that a few times now
-
If I had to speculate, the really huge surprise could be Tommy Jones or Sean Rash. Both of those would be big surprises as TJ has been with Ebonite his entire career in the PBA. Sean Rash would be a bigger surprise as he has always been with Big B, from youth days, college bowling at Wichita State, and then his entire PBA career.
As for the other huge talent, my guess would possibly be Jakob Butturff.
-
I know and it’s going to knock your briefs off.
-
Storm pays more pros then anybody. In the late 90s/2000s Brunswick did the same across the three tours. Then Brunswick dumped almost all of them reducing their pro staff. No doubt with the acquisition of the Ebi brands this trend wouldn't change. Keep some let the rest go.
-
I know and it’s going to knock your briefs off.
Words sneaking out, but yeah, i'm not spoiling it here, will say though, was a name I wasn't expecting...
-
Probably EJ Tackett would be the biggest surprise. Hope he stays with Motiv though.

Not Diana Z?

Two are obvious and one is predictable

That is a sad indictment on the industry that is enough to move contracts as that sh1t should be standard everywhere. Fighting for peanuts sadly.

Considering in todays times health insurance probably cost more then many of their contracts. There's a reason no one talks about the actual value of these players contracts. Outside of maybe 3 to 5 male bowlers the contracts probably aren't worth talking about as income.

Employment law is changing rapidly across the country. The argument between employer and independent contractor are hard to define.
If a company has 2 people doing the same job, one is on payroll, receives a W-2 at the end of the year, eligible for benefits, etc. vs. the other receiving a 1099 they are walking on a slippery slope. Worse yet, is where a the company gives, or provides at a steep discount, their product to promote. The company is benefiting from the individuals contribution no differently than the individual contributors at the company headquarters that are receiving full benefits. Once someone becomes classified as an "employee" they have to be offered benefits.
Staff members are likely thought of as independent contractors since they have the opportunity to take their talents to different companies and benefit (tournament winnings) from their arrangement with the company. The problem with that thought is exclusivity. Once you sign you cannot take your talents elsewhere until the end of your contract. That makes it easier for the staffer not getting paid to make the argument they are an "employee".
California AB5 was signed by Gov. Newsome in September. https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_independentcontractor.htm CA has always been the state companies look toward for trends in employment law. I suspect if staff players are being offered benefit package it is not to entice them to jump ship but rather in preparation for changes in the employment law landscape. Storm/RG/900 Global, Big B, Motive, etc. have some really smart people behind the business decisions they make. There isn't any ROI by offering benefits. Couple that with the fact that they can't offer player A benefits without offering the same benefits to players B-Z. Sure, they can pay them differently based on their level of talent but you have to treat them equally in all other ways if they become classified as an employee under the law.
If it is fact that companies are offering benefit packages to staffers it will certainly be interesting to watch unfold.

Not really the companies are fighting for survival and pulling benefits right and left any way from staffers. Having to consider them employees would just accelerate it.

I see Tommy Jones was still wearing an Ebonite shirt, but was throwing Brunswick in the Amateur vs Pro event that he won

Now that Brunswick owns Ebonite, they are letting staffers throw all of the brands. Shannon O'Keefe posted on her Facebook page that she was getting a whole bunch of Brunswick equipment drilled up.

Sooo who is coming over to Utah next?
All I want to know especially since the rumor says one is a big name.

🤔🤔🤔
-
Is it Colin Kaepernick?
-
All three from EBI all three right handed
-
Is it Colin Kaepernick?
It could have been, but he refused to attend the scheduled tryout...
-
Am I the only one who was not able to watch the Bowlero Elite am vs. pro broadcast Sat.(12/28)? Avabob just posted the winner. I was planning to watch it this evening, thanks for the spoiler. Much appreciated!!
-
My guess is these guys...
Tom Daugherty
Shawn Maldonado
Mitch Hupe
I'd like to see Kyle Sherman and Andrew Anderson come over.
-
How about... Bill O'Neill & Dom Barrett
-
No guesses, but I would think someone would snag Bill O Neill.

Time heals all wounds, but, would be shocked if it was TD. Remember the callout on national TV after he won his first title after leaving Storm...

The big one is going to announce soon.

Some of you have inboxed me and I’m sorry to say I can’t share who it is.

northface going from Storm/Roto and signing with the Brunswick clearance section? :-X

Motiv just announced within the past hour that Chris Loschetter has rejoined the pro staff. Also, Connor Pickford is back with Motiv as he signed a 2 year deal.

But its all about the hunt with the Ross dress for less brand of bowling (still love that North line).

Wait until after Team USA Trials. There's a few guys and gals that didn't want to make a huge switch before the tournament.
I was few incorrect information about Wes Low. He's a Motiv guy now.
-
I think a sign just dropped.
-
Rash to 900 Global
-
That's super shocking, would be like PDW leaving Storm or Couch leaving EBI . .
-
Never thought Rash would ever leave Big B.
-
They bounced me for Rash??
I guess...
-

I guess...
I like you better Doom. Ridiculous.
-
So to those who PMed me and I liked you I told you this. Wasn’t quite rash to storm like I said but I was very confident he was leaving. He will actually have balls that do stuff down lane.
-
Rash's picture/bio is gone from the Brunswick website. However, there is no mention (news) on the 900 Global website as to him moving to 900 Global.
Has anybody seem an formal announcement on this move? If so, I would like to read it.
-
Rash has signed with 900 Global confirmation story is on Flobowling.com
-
Brunswick really needs to emphasize some of the young guys who came over with the Ebonite purchase. I don’t think their “Legends†marketing formula is too successful. Good on 900 Global signing Rash they have some interesting stuff and with Rash and Barnes should get some good exposure.

Yep Tommy Jones looking good throwing that Hero means Brunswick would be stupid to not make it a priority to keep the EBI guys. Not like they have a fall back plan now unless they are going to double down on the grey beards.
-
A great addition to the team!
-

Darn wish it would have been Storm so him and Belmo could do the doubles tournament. Bowling equivalent to Blades of Glory.

Minor but Dom Barrett and Kyle Sherman are now Brunswick staffers.
-
Greg Young Jr officially to Storm.
He's gonna have a breakout year really soon

Connor Pickford back to Motiv.

Verity Crawley left EBI for Storm.
-
Dom Barrett to Brunswick
-
Dom Barrett to Brunswick
If he was already with Track/EBI, who was acquired by Brunswick, is he really leaving one to go to the other?
All of these changes can really make your head spin!

I can see Verity throwing the Idol series a lot. Could be a really good change for her

Losing Rash they are trying to replace him with a established winner and a new face that is doing good in social world (Sherman).. It all just comes out in the wash with 7 brands at the end...
-
Brunswick needs to seek the help of Ebonite's Marketing Department (mostly Inside Bowling). Their current Social Media and Youtube efforts are terrible.

I want to think I was told that Inside bowling (Flanagan) would be working with them... you are correct about what they have now its hideous.

On the live streams Mike made it sound like they are going to be working with Brunswick. The one thing is though, for as good as the EBI marketing was, they still weren't selling enough balls to keep the 4 brands alive. I cannot imagine Big B trying to manage 7.
And FWIW, changing some EBI guys to Brunswick help push the Big B brand, and I'm sure there is some contract incentives that go along with it even though they have access to all 7 brands.

DV8, the brand that appeals to the team you dread having to bowl near.

I know of another departure about to happen. Can't say I'm happy about it, but after hearing what they did to him. Im on his side completely

Probably not the one you are referencing, but I saw Charlie Brown Jr didn't get resigned by DV8 and is now a free agent.

Brunswick needs to seek the help of Ebonite's Marketing Department (mostly Inside Bowling). Their current Social Media and Youtube efforts are terrible.
Over 7.5 Million videos views in 2019 just on Facebook and YouTube.

7.5 million views is nothing on YouTube as I understand it.

Much like the relation of bowling to anything mainstream, but that wasn’t the comparison.

Please......Brunswick hasn’t been relevant since, well, since you were last relevant.

Yeah...is that 7.5 million unique views or total meaning someone could have viewed the same video 100 times and you count it 100 times? If so, then 7.5 million views means NOTHING!
-
It’s a surprise that Facebook groups have made message boards obsolete, especially with the vast amount of experts here offering their valued opinions.

7.5 million views is nothing on youtube. There is a mechanic in Houston who gives car repair advice and talks a lot about how great toyotas(specifically his 94 celica) that has 800 million views. There is also a 4 year old who makes videos of himself playing with new toys who had 585 million views in July 2019 alone. That's one month.
So yea, 7.5 million isn't shit. But believe what you want.

Glad we could help you out. Are you going to share what you learned with the facebook gang?

So compare apples to apples and get back to me. Do an analysis of the other brands of bowling and see where we are at. Until then...
-
I've been working in digital and social media marketing for the past 7 years and I currently manage a $20 Million+ Dollar/year digital media ad spend for a giant corporation with my small team of 6 people. There's a ton more that every bowling brand could be doing in this space. The bowling industry is years behind in the digital marketing world. I'm a bowler though (a bad one) but nonetheless, I wish the best for everyone involved in it.
Just saying.

Last I checked the clearance section. Usually 2 weeks after a new release.

Bowling isn’t a giant corporation, it’s a small business. Even when Brunswick Corporation held the entire bowling division, the slice on that corporate pie chart was just a sliver.

No reason bowling brands can't market themselves like the giant corporations. There's more bowlers in the U.S. than the industry that I'm in. There's lots of basics that I see broken by every brand, including the PBA on every digital marketing platform. Especially on the paid and organic side of Email, Youtube, Facebook & Instagram, and Google SEO/SEM/GDN platforms. If companies like Ebonite were going about growth & marketing in the correct way, 5-6 years ago, then they might have not gone under.
Its good that bowling companies want to give jobs to true bowlers. We often see that many times, companies pass over expert talent in key areas of business development that could have helped the company's bottom line for bowlers who have a big average and name recognition.
When i was on a job search years ago, I presented many case studies, action plans, along with my professional resume to every company including the USBC & PBA but my lack of inside connections, honor scores and low average never even lead to a email response or call back. So i made the pivot to working with startups, influencer marketing, and worked my way up to big corporate agency work.
Best of luck with the influx of brands to build Brunsnick. I know that you care about what you do and will give it 100%.

Is that mechanic in Houston, Scotty? I watch his stuff a lot.

Agree with this, and I feel like people poking at Brunsnick either haven't been around here long enough or have chosen to forget how much he has invested to get where he is at and continues to do.

Yep, that's him. Pretty entertaining to watch.

Brunsnick brought this on himself. If he can't take a little bit of "poking" then he shouldn't jump into it every time he feels the desire.
If you are the public face of company, telling prospective customers they "look like a fool" or making snide comments about "the experts" on this site is a huge mistake in my opinion.
But what the hell do I know, I'm just some dumb ass idiot who buys 10 or more bowling balls, along with various other bowling related products from my local pro shop EVERY year.

Brunsnick,
I believe you have contributed many positive and educational posts over the years representing Brunswick. For me you have been someone who I believe and trust in your posts.
Don't let some of the people who have responded on here to the way they have to your posts discourage your contributions on this site going forward. I for one will always read, learn, and enjoy your posts.
-
I would never go after Brunsnick personally but his brand(s) are fair game and I probably own 30+ Big B family poured balls from various eras. Ross dress for less these days. But then again bargains can be tempting but paying full price yeah nah I'm good.
-
Yeah, this post got personal super fast.
Nick should know better as he is a representative of his company. Discretion is the better part of valor, my man. Engaging in back and forth with consumers in a negative way doesn't help your brand. You're a super bright hard working young man who did work to get where you are today. Be confident in that truth, and let anything you feel is disrespectful slide. This kind of back and forth doesn't help at all.
-
Thanks Bowlaholic and themagician, now my contributions are through our brands in the form of education and tech. 17th year with Brunswick now, time has flown by.
I can take the poking, trolling is an art and it is what helped build the internet into what it is today. Unfortunately, there’s very few Rembrandts.
