Title: Another one bites the dust !
Post by: daves123 on March 03, 2019, 09:50:30 AM
This is just another example of the reason why I won't be buying any more storm equipment.
Great equipment if you don't want to own a ball for more than a year or two.
Hustle ink less than two years old.

that is fixable; drill out the fingers, plug and redrill.  would be good for a long while after that.

looks like this crack started with a chip in the middle finger hole.

I believe SG is spot on with this one.... Doesn’t appear to be a Manufacture defect on this one.

That picture reminds me why I avoid inserts more than anything about Storm.  Super glue is evil stuff.

This is truth. Stopped using grips in 98 (or whenever the Red Wolf Pearl came out), and went from bevel to no bevel at all, and unless I've done something horrible to the fingers, nothing has cracked.

I’d rather bowl well with a ball, than start a century old collection of balls I don’t throw anymore. But to each their own.

seems odd that only the storm stuff causes me this grief. I have other equipment from 900 global and other manufacturers and don’t have this kind of troubles. It doesn’t matter anymore due to the fact all my storm stuff is now in the dump.

I totally get why people use them and actually have some in some of the used balls I have picked up where span was nearly equal to mine and didn't want to replug everything.  My hands hardly swell ever and I can do well or suck with either so feel is less critical for me.  Main reason actually started avoiding them was used to tear my fingers up when I was younger and bowled a lot more.  The less likely to crack is just bonus.  As you say to each their own and been killing it with older pieces lately so all about recycling :).

Its probably the best bang for your buck at $80. Get another one, score big for 2 more years until it cracks again. This is literally the best ball on the market right now.

Ive also had more global stuff crack than anything else, that being said, give me another break s75 and b/w orbit extreme right now.

That San Antonio plant was infamous in the past for putting out balls that cracked no matter who owned it at the time but those days are over I hear.  900 has came a long way so will see a lot less problems with modern stuff.  Can vouch for my Honey Badger at least even if it is 2 piece.

Same here. I bowl really well with their stuff but I've got a collection of what I call "calibration balls" -- meaning old balls I keep around to use to make sure my drill press is in spec -- and in that is a Break S75, Break Point Pearl, Heist and a couple of others. That Break S75 was one of the 2-3 best balls I've ever owned, and man it hurt to lose it. Worst of all, mine was a "pro-pin" blem that allowed me to put the MB on the NAP (yes, the NAP, not the PAP) and I'll never find another like that. I had such a great look with that ball on sport shots.

There was no rhyme or reason to my cracking issues, either. One cracked similar to the OP's post, one from a weight hole, two from the thumb holes. On the other hand, I have a bunch of Lane #1 balls poured in that plant and none have had any issues.

As for Storm, I have an original X-Factor with probably 1,500 games on it, if not more, and it looks almost factory pristine.

That could be fixed.

Believe me, I'd love a rerelease of the S75. I'd buy a case.
