Title: Anyone else use 2-handed
Post by: tdub36tjt on March 20, 2010, 06:37:21 AM
I was wondering if anyone else uses the 2-handed deliver during league on occasion. I have worked on the 2-handed release and gotten decent at it and have used it about 3-nights this season where the lanes had a hang spot. I found switching to the 2-handed release helps me eliminate the hang I can run into throwing 1-handed at times. Last night used it 2nd game after I had a hang spot if I missed out by 2 boards. It helped me save a 195 after being in the 90's in the 6th frame throwing 1-handed and having a bad ball reaction. If not for a stone 8 pin would have struck out and been in the 210's.

I have practiced it a few times and haven't really devoted time to it, i'm thinking about doing so this summer. I just struggle mightily consistently generating speed and not getting on the side of the ball causing it to overreact off the dry. I'm not sure if i'll ever use it as anything more than a last ditch effort but I have found some success in limited practicing and see potential with it.

I hear you on not being able to generate the ball speed, I just have trouble getting around it sometimes. I don't think I throw the ball any faster 2-handed than 1-handed so the added revs make the weaker stuff better. I find most of my success 2-handed comes with my Creature solid/Link. They get down the lane a lot more than the stronger stuff. I actually threw front 9 2-handed with the Creature before.

I never would start 2-handed but it is something I use when I just have a real bad ball reaction. Another thing I like the 2-handed for is throwing plastic on the scorched lanes but I am not quite comfortable enough with that to use it in league yet, but I find I can carry 2-handed with the plastic.

i have tried it, for a while, maybe back in 2004 or 2005 when i first saw belmonte on tv

anyway, tried it but the problem has always been speed, ever wondered why high rev players like robert smith, TJ, jason couch, have high backswing? very simple, they need to generate speed to go with the amount of rev.

from belmo i heard that he likes to keep things compact and tight, thats the reason of bent elbow when the ball goes into backswing.

now how to generate speed on 2hand, follow thru and dont hit the ball, have a little "hop" in the last 2 steps

do i score with that? nop, lol

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

my brother just started bowling with 2 hands
he had a problem with too much revs and not enough speed so he was getting major over reaction on a lot of conditions

now with the 2 handed style he is able to get a lot more speed on the ball
up around 21mph
and is able to get hold on parts of the lane that he never could before
rev rate is also a bit higher and the end result is better carry for him
and he is able to stay in the pocket on a more regular basis

he just has to work a little on his accuracy with it but so far from what Ive seen of him using it
it works well for him
I dont think there is anything wrong with it
in fact I think its a superior release if you can become accurate with it

I throw two handed, can get the revs, not the speed, so use a weak ball.... Its been going great for the last 15 months ago since I began.. My ave also reflects this yipeee for me.... Takes serious time, like anything in life to improve, but well worth it.. The only concern for me is physical toll it may take on me in another 10 yrs or so..To get the speed up around 19mph or more, u need a lot of power in back, putting lots of pressure on it, as well as twisting... Not sure about it, but seriously love it... Hence I throw it slower, with more of a cradle rather than resting on hand, seems to work for me...

Aside from Belmo, anyone being bowling like that for 10yr+, how is your body and back holding up??

It is a normal release just you use your left hand to support more of the weight of the ball.  I have been bowling mainly 2 handed for the past 2 years and 1 when the lanes need it.  I had a problem with my speed to low and revs too high but now my problem is that when I throw the ball faster I get more revs on the ball and it hooks earlier.  Just like bowling one handed.  Practice hand positions because they can affect the ball the most besides speed.  Foot work like any other style is important in two handed.  Sliding is ok but a plant is better to get leverage and momentum in the ball.

I don't think it will ever become my "A" game. Don't think I could abandon the 1-handed release. I just think it is something that gives me another option when I'm dead in the water. Love the people who think I am bowling illegally when I switch to the 2-handed release though they want to throw a fit....

Just say fine being a camera and pause it at release.  The left hand goes away a fraction of a second before the right hand fallows through.  I threw a back up ball at the 2-8-10 and made it and the other teams captain got offended and tried to get me banned.  Rule 118 i think says it perfectly about approach and style.

When u are on song, its a beautiful thing the two handed delivery, but tonight, ouch, bad splits and missed easy spares!!! Struggled to get over 510..... Yes, it can be hard on back, it takes time to develop strength and flexibility in back to get ball down at good speed.... But if u slow speed down, less stress on back, I actually find it easier to deliver ball consistantly hitting my target..

I dont know how other 2 handers find this??

Just a thought....

Would a sarge easter drill cut down on the revs and get ball down the lane faster?

I have taken my ring finger out on occassion.

???

No but it would reduce the backend on the ball, you will actually roll the ball more making it roll sooner.

I have messed around with it, high game in practice was 221... never used in league, not interested in it really, my rev rate is high enough as it is and I don't see any benefits in me learning how to use the style... it is fun to use at spares in practice though

I dont bowl with 2 hands but without my thumb and I know you have trouble controling the backend even more because when the ball checks up and really checks up...  Good luck on this style of bowling...
