I've noticed a fair share of bowlers in my area anyway don't use black tape on the back part of their thumb holes anymore. I usually see bowlers place several pieces of white tape on the back part of thumb hole instead though they all wear hada patches on their thumbs, I assume to not cause hang up from the texture of the white tape. Is black tape just not common place anymore and is going the way of corK inserts in bowler's bags?

Whenever I need to put tape in the back of my thumb hole, it is always black tape. I rarely ever use white thumb tape.
-
I don't like the textured white tape, it's too grippy for me. I stick to the black tape if I need it
-
I run white front and back. The black tape makes it to slick for me and tends to fly out to fast
-
I use white in the front and black in the back. I tried white in the back once and kept hanging in the ball.

I still use black in the back, as well as the Hada tape on my thumb. Works for me.
-
I use white in both the front and back and also black in the back.
-
Lol, I use black in the front, maybe because of the texture feeling of it, and white in the back, I dont know why but feels better to me, if I use black in the back my thumb gets stuck
-
I use Frankentape, which is a very thin black tape. I put one piece narrow side up on top of the white tape in the front of the thumb hole. This will leave an inverted U of white tape exposed which is just enough for me. Otherwise, too much white tape exposed and it feels too tacky and my thumb may hang in the ball too long.

That is how I use my Frankentape, also but have never tried it inverted. I will have to try that.

Also white in front and black in back. Also wear green tape on thumb for extra snugness without hanging up. Squeezing is a thing of the past

I use only white (textured) tape, both front and back. The black tape is too slick for
me and causes me to fall out of the ball. It has the same effect as having too much reverse thumb pitch. However, it all boils down to personal preference. Whatever combination of pitches, bevel, span, tape you use that will allow you to effect a clean non-grabby release , the better your game will be on today's conditions.

No black tape for me. It's just preference, and I hate the sticky residue it always seems to leave. I only use white, but with different widths to fine tune feel for the day.

Frenkentape leaves no sticky residue. In fact you can remove it and re-use it. It is ultra thin and the ease of removing it and using it again more than 1-2 times is unbelieveable.
It is also great such as when you have white in the front and back of thumb hole and your thumb starts sticking showing signs if maybe being too tight. You can put a piece of Frankentape over the white tape in back of thumb hole and your thumb sticking problem is eliminated because the Franken tape is so thin as well as slick even though in looking at it , it doesn't look slick.

Real Bowlers Tape or bust.
