Are both sexes equal in talent?
« on: October 08, 2003, 06:14:43 AM »
That is my question. I do not mean to sound sexist at all, I just want to know what others think. You look at averages. Guys averages are almost always higher. You look at tournaments, the guys always have more total pinfall. In the YABA (which I am in), girls get rings for a 700 series, while guys have to bowl an 800 series for a ring. Sport shots even show the same results. I am not trying to rag on all females, I just think there is a difference, and wondering what everyone else thinks?

There are a lot of good comments. I do agree, that males and females are equal in talent, when it comes to knowledge of the game,shot-making, etc. But I guess a better question would be, can females compete with males? I think ladies' scores are lower all due to the physical strengths. That has to do with all sports, making the difference between males in females, is the strength. I think if this was even, then females could compete with males, but since its not, then I dont think it can happen. Since males have this advantage, they will always dominate more, in most sports. That is why there are no mixed pro leagues. If the same sex is bowling the same sex, that is only fair. Just my opinion.

Annika Sorenstam just showed it!

She played almost her physical best.  (good god she hit 18 fairways the first day). And just missed the cut in a men's tournament on a shorter PGA course.

The very best woman golfer now or maybe of all time finished in the top 100 men but just outside the 75 person cut mark.  A great accomplishment!

So it is with bowling.  They can beat a man for one game or even a series.
Just saw my regional champ friend shoot about a 690 and get pasted by a local woman who shot about 740.  He was bowling well and he won't tell you otherwise!

For 18 holes or a 3 game series it can happen.  They are that good.  But when out of sync the men will outperform due to upper body strength most times.

I agree with you Lucky. I don't think its talent so much as men are more often able to over power certain lane conditions. Most women can't.
