Are Two Handers still ruining the game?
« on: December 12, 2018, 03:22:50 PM »
Traditionalists will tell you this, yet Andrew Anderson, a right handed tweener wins PBA player of the year with one of the more "traditional" styles on tour and traditionalists are still silent. E.J. Tackett was runner up... Kamron Doyle, ROY.

The game/future seems ok to me.

No my point was just more than there is probably some 17yo kid out there right now practicing being able to do what he does or some other funky delivery that gives an advantage may come on the scene (Robert Smith not good example now think about with injuries and such, just more the massive rev rate didn't guarantee dominance long term).  From what I hear kid has good head on his shoulders so he will be fine and I hope he keeps winning for years to come being a local guy.  My son's favorite bowler and I cheer for him always.

(edit: on second thought first post doesn't really apply because the kid is a stone cold shot maker in addition to his physical gifts, he'll be winning for years to come).

If anything the kids should be practicing his level of professionalism and maturity. He's been a rock solid guy since a teen. Same with just about every young gun I've met on tour that's killing it. These guys are just great people as a whole.

Bowlers put to much stock in worrying about "how the kids will hurt themselves emulating ____'s game". As long as it's not your kid getting hurt, that's someone else's risk to bear.

The kids are probably way more likely to hurt themselves emulating their friends in their hometown through real life issues like alcoholism and drug use...but completely different topic/argument. I understand your point.

Does sound like the kids on tour today are bit wiser about saving winnings, paying taxes, not doing dumb stuff etc than some of the guys in the past on tour.  That is great to see.  Pros in every sense of the word.

That probably has a lot more to do with how little they make compared to the days when bowlers actually made good money.

I think it has more to do with great older mentors on tour that have passed down knowledge of tour life to these guys. And these millennial/borderline gen-Z'ers being nicer overall, and more socially aware as a whole. These "youngsters" are competing every week with guys they looked up to just 10-15 years ago. A lot easier to be humble.

So bowling is unique from Football/Basketball/Baseball and their young athletes?

Please, the difference is the amount of money.

Money makes stupid people really stupid. There just isn't enough money in professional bowling to survive if you are a screw up, even if you have the talent to compete.

Now - Imagine how many two-handers will complain if a helicopter spinner from Hong Kong or Macau or Taipei comes up and takes PoTY on the PBA.  :P

I mean after all, a spinner beat a two-hander at the World Cup last year.

BL.

I'm eagerly awaiting this.

Spinners leave too many 5 pins to be POY.  Nice to shred racks when we go brooklyn though.

I want to see an American league hack spinner vs. Taipei spinner match. We need answers to which style strikes the most.

I'm an American hack spinner and I rarely leave the 5 pin. I do, however, leave the 8-10 split way more than anyone else.

Anyone ever consider that the people that have hands are ruining the game?

I dont really know whether the game is being ruined.  I do know that from this old timers perspective the 2 handers are no more offensive than the cup wristed open shouldered plant and turn crankers spawned during the urethane era.

the only people ruining bowling are bowlers.  So many of us whine about anyone that has a perceived advantage; and wants them banned.

its like something I saw a long time ago:  Rock says paper is cheating and needs to be banned from competition.  however the scissors are just fine.

anything that helps participation is good thing; if the choice is to have lots of 2 handers or lots less bowlers, I choose having the 2 handers around.
