left handed drilling for right handed bowler
« on: June 02, 2007, 05:37:42 PM »
they talked about it somewhat through-out the season on some pba televised matches where some of the players were shifting the pins toward the left(middle finger) so that when back ends were flying their ball wouldn't overreact on the backend. what happens if you just use a left handed drilling or is this pretty much what they are doing? thats perfectly within the rules as long as the ball doesn't vary more then 1 ounce from side to side, correct?

It is all in relation to the PAP. Going "negative" with the pin doesn't necessarily mean it is drilled for a lefty (and vice versa).

I remember seeing an LPBT telecast in about 1996 where Carol Norman was using a pearl Pihrana/C with the pin next to the middle finger near her track. It 'looked' like a label drill for a lefthander, so looks can be a bit decieving sometimes with layouts. As for controlling flying backends people dont seem to put the pin anywhere from 2" from pap or axis weight a ball anymore, wonder why?
