Exactacation kit to make thumb molds??
« on: August 03, 2014, 07:49:14 AM »
Hey guys.. I recently purchased the kit for the shop. I made a descent amount of slugs and they came out really nice!!  But the past 3 weeks I have been trying to pour the slugs and they seem to be heating up very quick and bubbling over the outer sleeve making the slug way tighter than the original mold.
Here is what I have tried:
1. Mixing it in front of a fan to keep cool --- unsuccessful
2. Not using color (thinking that might change the outcome) -- unsuccessful
3. Using a different resin, compound bottle (thinking possibly the others went bad) -- no good
4. Mixing the resin, compound in different cups -- no good

Can anyone steer me in the right direction???

Either the pumps are off on the ratio or you are mixing too long.

I don't use pumps..I mix equally 1:1 in seperate cups
-mixing too long could be an issue (I usually stir it for 30 seconds)

Could be moisture or humidity problem.

Good call!! I've been mixing it in the basement (I have a dehumidifier) I'll let that run in there for a few days before I mix another

I had an issue with the Motiv quick plug foaming up and out of the holes due to moisture. It's kind of cool the first time you see it though. Especially because is hardens so fast it doesn't get a chance to make a mess ;D
