a strike is a strike, isn't it?
« on: August 09, 2011, 07:52:50 AM »
I thought about a youtube video that I saw a couple of days ago, in which, Biboy Rivera (i think that's his name) from the Philippines shooting a 300 in a finals match.  It wasn't a pretty 10th frame, but he got the job done. I believe it was a late 9 pin, backside trip the 2 pin, and almost left 5 7 split. Again, not a pretty way to get 30 pins, but the pins all fell down - 300.

Would you be upset if someone else was carrying all kinds of hits, and you can't get a break while hitting the pocket more than they are?

Sometimes, I do tend to get frustrated when people are leaving trash strikes... but then I think about it, and its just the way of the game.. nothing you can do

The bowling gods are nothing if not fickle.

That is one of the things that has never changed in bowling.  In the long run the breaks even out, but in the short run not so much.

I try to console myself by thinking that other guys get more lucky breaks than me because they get more chances.   I have won my share of tournaments where my opponent stones an 8 or 9, and lost my share doing the same thing.

I trip 4 pins regularly. I get my share of breaks, and I'm certain that everyone else does, too. They just have memory lapses when it comes to remembering them...

YEP!

I see it all the time. Hacks me off EVERY time.

Thing is, the older I get, the more I do it myself, so I'm starting to get a lot more tolerant with it.

Funny how that works, isn't it?

I bowled with a fellow that couldn't stand seeing guys/gals get blessed by the bowling Gods with strikes. It drove him made. He bowled with a blue dot and is a pretty good bowler. But, watching his outburst was comical at times. He bowled up in washington state at secoma lanes. If any WA bowlers ever seen a bowler with anger issues, it's probably him. :D

IMO it evens itself out. One ball you might come in really light and get a trash strike. Then a few frames later blow the rack for an 8 pin. My last 300 2 or the last 3 strikes were brooklyn. :)

Not anymore. Everyone gets lucky from time to time, so let it be. In bowling noone asks how the 300 came to be - you do not get extra points for pretty shots. Sad, but true.

Yes it can be frustrating. No matter the skill, luck will have its day with carry.

Last year me and another on my team both had the front 9 I left a 10 pin he went through the nose. He shot 300 I shot 289. This is why 300 no longer excites me I only care about 800's, I have seen many sub par bowlers shoot 300 but not many shoot 800.

A Strike is a strike I will take them all. We used to have a very good women bowler, bowl in our sport league. She was left handed and absolutely hated when a righty went Brooklyn it drove her nuts. So one night we where bowling her and we all lined up to shoot the Brooklyn in the 2nd game because she was complaining about our cross overs in the 1st game we only had about 6 for 5 guys. so the 2nd game we had 20 Brooklyn's and pissed her off so much she quit the next year. So be thankful for any strike and work on your game to be a better bowler. And do not worry about the other guy or team because there is nothing you can do about it.

That's all Trash Heap throws...."TRASH STRIKES"

The object of the game is to knock them all down.

I'll take them because as it has been pointed out it does seem to even out over the course of a season.  You just hope that you get your trash strikes when it counts for something.

On a side note, my first sanctioned 300 had the worst tenth frame I can remember... brooklyn, a trip 2 and then a trip 4.  I remember afterwards saying that the bowling gods decided it was my turn and nothing I did was going to get in the way!
