How many here belong to your local Amateur Bowlers Tour?
« on: June 01, 2009, 09:48:28 AM »
I am planning on joining the local Amateur tour here in Milwaukee. How many others here belong to their local Amateur tour? I am doing it to get more experience.

We have ABT here.  In fact, the guy who runs it bowls a league in my local center.  Me and him have talked quite a few times.  I might do some of those but I'm not really sure how to get started.  I know there's a very detailed form about your credentials to fill out, not sure if that's to be a member or to even be able to bowl in the events at all.  Seems like more of a hassle than I'd want to deal with.

I printed out the application and it ask height, weight & hair and eye color. It also asks for the last couple of years averages. Seems like alot but this way I can bowl more and get some experience on harder shots and stuff.

My tournament director seems to be a pretty laid back guy. Seems that the portions of the application form he cared most about (other than my name/address/contact info) were my averages and some kind of ID. Maybe the director in your area is as laid back.

Lee J. is not that stringent. That form was back from the original when ABT was started in late 70's.  Ken Daleiden (sp?) started ABT in CA. Lee J. has been the franchise owner/director since it's inception in Milw when he came from CA.

I have been a member in the Milw. Div. for quite awhile but haven't bowled the past few years.  A local Div.will be as good as the franchise owner and bowlers make it....it's that simple.

In the Milw. Div. there are no house patterns put down.  Expect to bowl on flat patterns that are not easy.  If you are coming off a wall and expect to bowl on the same thing it can be a rude awakening and many quit after a few tourneys or you learn to adapt and get competitive.  As always on hard conditions spares are imperative.

Milw. Div. doesn't bowl in the summer and they are winding down to the year ender.  They will start up end of August before Labor Day.  Normally Sussex is the first one and is a non-member tourney so you can bowl as a non-member and see how you like it before joining.  BTW............Lee doesn't always keep the website up to date so call the # on the site if you want more info.

I may see you there next year.........might bowl more next fall.  Summer is for golf!

I sent Lee an email a few days ago and he let me know about being off for the summer. The reason that I wanted to do it is because of the flat harder patterns. I bowled in my first tourney in March and it was much harder than league but I expected that. It will be nice to meet up with you there in August.

jmattox,
I am a member of the Chicagoland ABT branch.  If you don't mind the drive from Milwaukee to our area, consider bowling some events down here while Milwaukee is on summer hiatus.  We have lots of Wisconsin bowlers bowl with us.  Most of our events are held on more challenging conditions, as well.

You can go to www.abtchicagoland.com for more information, or feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

I've considered joining the ABT in my area, it just seems to be too much of a hassle with the Initiation fees registration form etc.....I don't know if it's worth it.

I've thought about it in the past Rick.  Madison to Chicago area seems a bit far but Madison to Milw for a Sat/Sun ain't great either.  I wish some how they could do it in one day.  Just going on Sun. for the reentry squad I've done but not partial too.

AC, I want more of a challenge. Not to say I am the best bowler in the leagues that I am in, I just like to challenge myself and get better along the way. And like you said the membership is only $30 a year. So are you in the Milwaukee chapter AC?
