Do they still make thumb billows?  That's the padded insert you put in the back of the thumb for a quicker release even when the hole is tight.

Turbo makes a product called the "shur cushion" which sounds like what you are describing. I have not used the cushion, so I cannot comment on it. The Ball Reviews Pro Shop may carry the product. If not, google "Turbo shur cushion" for leads on where to buy it.
